Kimberla Lawson Roby's fans can't get enough of the Reverend Curtis Black - that self-justifying, greedy, womanizing flimflam man who is one of the biggest rascals ever to step into a church.
In this outing, Curtis is starting over. He has a new job and a new wife, and of course he's convinced himself that this time he'll be good. But Curtis hasn't ever made a promise he could keep, and before long, he's up to his old tricks. The difference now is his third wife. She's unlike any woman Curtis has met before. And for the first time in his life, Curtis just might have met his match. Watch the sparks fly!

"Tracey Leigh's performance of this spirited domestic saga is outstanding; warmly recommended for all fiction collections." (Library Journal)
Kimberla Lawson Roby never cease to amaze me. She keeps me listening so intensely. I can't wait to see what's going on to happen next.
A book in the revered Curtis series that doesn't require any of the other books be read. I would recommend this to fans of the author, or of the series. Nicely done, I especially like the character Marisa.
I have read other books in the series but somehow missed this one. Out of curiosity, I bought it and immediately regretted it. I wasn't missing a thing! This is the same old sordid bunch of manipulative, corrupt, secretive liars with a played out story line. The whole family cheats, There is no one to feel good about. And the worst offense of all is Pastor Black addressing people as "Negro" all the time. How ridiculous does that sound? Please end this miserable series!
The story line was juicy! An enjoyable read. The hits kept coming for Curtis. At times I was shaking my head from all the drama. Great writing and performance. Loved it!!
Kimberla did a great job with "the best kept secret" it kept me entertained and in suspense until the end. I love and admire this writer. Definitely worth the read.
