Publisher's summary

How do you know if you've found the one? Can you really love the one you're with when you can't forget the one who got away?

Emily Giffin, author of the New York Times bestselling novels Something Borrowed, Something Blue, and Baby Proof, poses these questions—and many more—with her highly anticipated, thought-provoking new audio novel Love the One You're With.

Ellen and Andy's first year of marriage doesn't just seem perfect, it is perfect. There is no question how deep their devotion is, and how naturally they bring out the best in each other. But one fateful afternoon, Ellen runs into Leo for the first time in eight years. Leo, the one who brought out the worst in her. Leo, the one who left her heartbroken with no explanation. Leo, the one she could never quite forget. When his reappearance ignites long-dormant emotions, Ellen begins to question whether the life she's living is the one she's meant to live. At once heartbreaking and funny, Love the One You're With is a tale of lost loves and found fortunes—and will resonate with anyone who has ever wondered what if.

A little all over the place

The thought process of the main character was whiney and inconsistent jumping all over the place. While I understand that human thought isn’t linear, this character was so inconsistent and not realistic. Also left loose ends as to some elements.

Big whiney brat!

I listened to this story about 3 years ago when I first bought it. Then I thought, "wow, what a little whiney brat"!

When I was going through my library, I saw this title flash at me and I though, maybe I should give it a second shot. When I heard it the first time, I was going through a sad divorce. So I re-listened to it. Now being very happily married with a great attitude, I re-listened to it....

AND now I can safely say that the main character is still a whiney little brat.
Through the whole book she is complaining. She made it sound like a gun was pointed to her head and she was forced into this married life that she was in. This was different from all of the rest of Giffin's books. The main character to me was not likable, playing the victim and being the constant martyr.

I would say, save your money and pick something else.

winey story

I am usually such a fan of stories of Unrequited Love but I found this book to be a tad bit annoying....
I just wanted to take the lead character and shake her and say, "well you did this to yourself"
All she did was be winey and played the victim in this story.
I loved all of the other books by by this author, but this one, not so much.

Don’t waste your time

I was looking for a fun low key listen, but this just made me feel irritated and annoyed. There was no real story, the characters had less than zero depth, and none of them were likable. Laziness on every front.

Not compelling, predictable and unlikeable characters

The story was a bore. The lead character is not very interesting or likable. The conflict is a stretch, weak and easily avoidable.

ugh....

Heres how to ruin an unbroken life. Yes, we all wonder, but to act on it... this girl is so self-involved, and this story is so unrealistic I struggled to get through it. l skipped several chapters, actually. ugh

OK, but far from great

Not nearly as good as "Something borrowed," but it's OK.

I didn't like the ending and I didn't like her justification for her actions.

Boring and drawn out

I am a big fan of Emily Giffin but this book is just so boring. Vanilla passion, vanilla love story. All these unnecessary details about the characters’ past and their decor preferences. Who cares. Chapters and chapters of irrelevant and boring information. The main characters marriage sounds like the most boring, unfulfilling relationship ever but we’re given constant clarifications and reminders that she has a wonderful husband and that she is indeed happy and content. Sounds like she’s trying to convince herself out of a divorce. No wonder she keeps thinking of her ex.
