Publisher's summary

The author of five blockbuster novels, Emily Giffin delivers an unforgettable story of two women, the families that make them who they are, and the longing, loyalty, and love that binds them together.

Marian Caldwell is a 36-year-old television producer, living her dream in New York City. With a fulfilling career and satisfying relationship, she has convinced everyone, including herself, that her life is just as she wants it to be. But one night, Marian answers a knock on the door ... only to find Kirby Rose, an 18-year-old girl with a key to a past that Marian thought she had sealed off forever. From the moment Kirby appears on her doorstep, Marian’s perfectly constructed world - and her very identity - will be shaken to its core, resurrecting ghosts and memories of a passionate young love affair that threaten everything that has come to define her.

For the precocious and determined Kirby, the encounter will spur a process of discovery that ushers her across the threshold of adulthood, forcing her to re-evaluate her family and future in a wise and bittersweet light. As the two women embark on a journey to find the one thing missing in their lives, each will come to recognize that where we belong is often where we least expect to find ourselves - a place that we may have willed ourselves to forget, but that the heart remembers forever.

Best Giffin Novel Yet

This story was so well written, I found myself listening everywhere-at work, in the car, at the grocery store...I could not put it down! I have read all of EG's books and this is by far my favorite.

wonderful book - I only wish ...

How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?

… that I had a little more wrap up in the end. … Read and you'll see. Or maybe I'm just too much of a hopeless romantic?

Which scene was your favorite?

Kirby getting on stage and playing a set with her birth father.

Laugh,cry, Griffin Brings it All!

Would you consider the audio edition of Where We Belong to be better than the print version?

Audio has advantage of Cassidy. She can certainly bring all the characters to life. Much better than the print version can.

What did you like best about this story?

Sensitivity and sadness that Marian experiences is written so beautifully by Griffin

What about Orlagh Cassidy’s performance did you like?

Ability to exhibit true emotion in her voice portrayals.

Who was the most memorable character of Where We Belong and why?

Marian's Dad. The description of his physical features and longing for his granddaughter, while still showing the love for his own daughter were remarkable. He also exemplifies the balance needed in the family, especially counteracting his spouse's, sometimes, thoughtless remarks.

Left unsatisfied...

Is there anything you would change about this book?

Kirby's smug attitude and voice almost killed this audio book for me.

Was Where We Belong worth the listening time?

I don't say this often, but I would have preferred reading the book. The audio version left me irritated.

Any additional comments?

With other Emily Giffin books I have been excited to recommend them to friends to read. However, this book left me feeling empty, wanting more. Without spoiling the book for others I'll just say that this book did not end wrapped up with a pretty little bow, or with the clue/hint of a second book. Not cool!

A lovely story

If only situations portrayed in this story could be resolved as described, the world would be a better place!

Good but...

Kept me entertained but...

...the language surrounding adoption is outdated. It made portions of the book cringeworthy.

interesting story, even if you are not 20something

this book has an interesting premise, and good characters and narration. the real appeal is that it is not directed necessarily to the 20-something reader.
