Soon to be a major motion picture produced by Guillermo del Toro and directed by J. A. Bayona.

"The novel moves at a deliberate, relentless pace, feeding readers just enough information to keep them perplexed and paranoid....Moody creates some truly chilling scenes, but there are also flashes of black comedy." (Kirkus Reviews)
"Originally self-published, Moody's nail-biter of a debut plausibly creates a nightmare world....this intelligent, well-written chiller heralds a significant new talent." (Publishers Weekly)
"It's a risky undertaking, giving literary form to a type of story that is traditionally told in pictures, but Moody completely pulls it off." (Booklist)
Yes, the story did take a while to get moving, but that remains true with the first story of any "Trilogy". You have to develop your characters properly and David Moody did an excellent job.
The right combination of the decline of society, tension, suspense, not to mention blood and gore made this book an awesome "read".
I love apocalyptic novels and this is definately in that category. Can't wait to hear "Dog Blood".
I enjoy good apocalyptic/plague books but have been pulled in by bad novels one too many times. I was pleasantly surprised with Hater. It delivers on all levels and the true to life pessimistic attitude the narrator brings just makes the listen that much better. Great job by David Moody!!
This book is frightening.
Not in a slasher/monster/zombie/natural disaster way, that would be too easy. Its frightening in a raw real way and Moody is unapologetic in his descriptions of gut wrenching violence.
The pacing is fantastic and starts out as a bleak end of the world scenerio before heading into darker more uncharted territory.
By the end of the book you won't know who to root for and the final moments are the stuff nightmares are made of.
Thank goodness there will be a sequel.
Love Zombies, love Armageddon, post apocalyptic stuff. And therefore also love Sean of the Dead for it's comic twist on the genre. Problem is author couldn't get humor into his incredibly long set up, and without Simon Pegg, the lead character is tedious for too long. That part of it dragged badly. I was just about to give it up - and give it 2 stars - when it finally twisted. The story revealed an innovative concept, just long enough for me to sit up and defer judgment. Course, now I have to buy the second friggin' book to find out if it works...
Wasn’t too bad it just didn’t get to where I thought it would. Needed a little something but I can’t put my finger on it.
I agree with a lot of people’s reviews of the main character. The main character was annoying in a lot of ways. “Oh well, I guess I’ll do this.” Or “Ho hum things are horrible aren’t they.” All while craziness is going on all over the place.
Overall not bad.
I started to hate myself for buying this book after the first 15 minutes into it. This book is so boring, and the lead character was so annoying. DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME!!!!
Let's face it, these authors aren't paying me, so there's no need to lie!!
After reading a few of the other reviews on here, to just "stick with it", and to "not give up", I REALLY should have known better. Honestly, I gave this book about an hour and a half of my time, which turned out to be an hour and a half too much. This main character is so unlikeable, and so depressing, that I thought I needed an anti-depressant and a beer after listening to this! Do yourself a favor, DON'T MAKE THE SAME MISTAKE I DID! This book is boring, unoriginal, and just plain ANNOYING! I guarantee you that you will NEVER find a main character that you CARE LESS ABOUT in any book, EVER! Thank you for WASTING one of my credits!!
Thrillers zombies and action make my day! Fast moving stories and characters worth reading. New twists to a great genre will always get me
Starts off slow, a little too much mundane information about the family. Kept waiting for some action then when the action did come, there wasn't enough time left to tell the story.
Good story overall although predictable. Slow start - all the action in the end if you can get through it.
