NAACP nominee and best-selling author Beverly Jenkins returns to Henry Adams, Kansas - an unforgettable place that anyone would want to call home - with a story of family, friends, and the powerful forces from our past that can irrevocably shape our future.
Mayor Trent July and his wife, Lily, are enjoying life as newlyweds and embracing the challenges and joys that come with being adoptive parents to two wonderful boys. But being a father has inevitably forced him to think about his own birth mother. Raised by his grandmother, Tamar - and, in many ways, the good people of Henry Adams - Trent was blessed with a childhood full of love.
But now he can't help wondering what happened to the scared teenage girl who gave birth to him. And questions that he's never voiced are now begging to be answered: Who was she? Is she still alive? Why didn't she want him?
Trent has always believed no good comes from dwelling on the past, especially when he has a loving family, a strong community, and folks who depend on him. But when the past comes to Henry Adams, Trent has no choice but to face it - and the woman who left him behind.
The truth will shake his very being and everything he thought he knew about life, love, and the bonds that hold families together...yet can also tear them apart.

This book and the entire series is absolutely wonderful. It is like visit old friends and catching up on what has been happening in their lives.
I could really see this as a television series on the hallmark mark channel or better yet BET or Centric since I have never seen an diverse cast on hallmark.
Somebody call Oprah and let her know that if she is looking for a great series to bring to her network to look no further.
I can't wait for the next book to be turned into audio book. Hearing the reader bring these characters to life is a joy. Don't wait get this now. It will be a credit well spent.
Ms Jenkins is absolutely Fabulous, she touches something in you with the characters and their stories. I laughed out loud, I cried, and a few of these characters I wanted to do a WWF smack down on. I got lost in the, story and the town of Henry Adans, KS Loved It!!
Excellent story and narrator made the story come to life. Definitely worth listening . You won't be disappointed
I am never disappointed with this author - and this was no exception-loved every thing about this STORY-EXCEPT when it was over! ! I never want the story to end - I would love be one of the residents of Henry Adams-This would be"A Different World" if it was the norm thru out
Nice book. It highlights how good life could be when people are accepting and work together towards common goals. I was able to smile when the book was over.
Love it Beverly Jenkins you keep on blessing us with your talent thanks can't wait until your next book I love audible because I'm on the road a lot and love that I'm able to enjoy your books thru audible
I'm a huge fan of Audible. As a school librarian, I've found that it passes my days and nights.
As always I enjoy both reading and listening to Beverly Jenkins' works. I'm glad to read about the descendants of some of my favorite characters, the Julys. This story dove into the social aspects facing teen moms and dads. I love how the town embraced the young people. Just a few small acts of care and concern changed the future of the young couple and their children. Again, Jenkins is a great author.
My only issue with the story was the voices of the children. They were horrible. I like Taylor usually, but someone else should have read for the kiddos.
