So when the king himself offers her a job, she can't resist the massive reward he offers - even if it means working with Captain Elander, the arrogant, mysterious right-hand to that king. Her partner may be infuriating, but at least their mission seems simple and quick enough: investigate the origins of the strange plague that's been ravaging their empire, help find a cure, and then call it a day.

Old friends
I love listening to outlander series while driving or cleaning houses, I feel like I'm in the stories with Claire and Jamie. the more I get to know them the more I love them

It's a Wonderful Story!!!
Would you listen to Dragonfly in Amber again? Why?
I have read the book three times and I listened on audible and I must say it touches my heart just like reading it does. Diana Gabaldon has a way of telling a story like no other and the characters Jamie and Claire have a love that binds them like no other. Davina Porter's telling of the story makes it almost real.... It's by far the best book and series I have ever read and I have read alot. I give it an A+++++ :)

it doesnt get any better than Diana Gabaldon!
Gabaldon is a masterful writer! I've read all books in the Outlander series twice, and listened to them once through. Now on my second listen. My favorite book series ever! Davina Porter is my favorite female narrator, so how could I not love this series?????

take me away book...
Enjoyed this historical fiction book, a little of everything, drama, adventure, romance, rightious fighters against tyranny and brave struggles for freedom. Listening to this audio book was an enjoyable escape from present day conditions, and hopefully, unlike the Jacobite rebellion, we will be successful and rid our country of our present day tyranny.

Wonderful series;just ffrwrd thru bodice ripping
Would you consider the audio edition of Dragonfly in Amber to be better than the print version?
Didn't read the book but the narration of the series is fabulous.
What other book might you compare Dragonfly in Amber to and why?
It is a wonderful fantasy historical series. I'm certain there are others to compare but I've not listened to any.
What does Davina Porter bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
Davina Porter is one of the best. There are an awful lot of great readers now, though. When I first started listening to "Books on Tape" (that were on cassette tapes!), there were many great readers but there seem to be more now. Back then, I would listen to books based on who read them knowing that the best readers rarely read bad books. But, now there are so many good readers, I don't look for the good readers; I just try to avoid the bad ones.Davina Porter in the Hammish McBeth series (M.C. Beaton) is also wonderful. She doesn't read all of them (unfortunately). I've listened to her read many books by many authors. She is fabulous.
If you could take any character from Dragonfly in Amber out to dinner, who would it be and why?
The choice is too difficult.

A wonderful series. The sex becomes repetitive but I guess it has to be included to be a "romance" novel. I just fast forward through all of it. (I think the author became bored with it as well, eventually.)
One of the books in the series has an obsessive fascination with breast feeding. Just fast forward through those parts too if they bore you as much as they did me. I think the author must have been breast feeding or someone in her immediate circle was and it became a distracting part of the book. But, all the books are worth listening too despite these apparently-mandatory "romance" digressions.
My favorite books were the early books set in Scotland. I know little about the Scottish history - other than the most common parts - so the re-telling of the massacres and Bonnie Prince Charlie were fascinating. But, the entire series is well worth money and time.
Obviously, a listener needs to like really long books (I do) and long series (my favorites) though.
