An old-fashioned 'they-don't-write-em-like-that-anymore' feel-good Western romance with a kick - and enough mystery and adventure to keep you riveted to the very end.
Calico is directed at Western fans of any age, but has strong appeal to a YA readership - particularly to younger members of the GLBT community, who have relatively few positive role models in literature.

This is my first audio book and I'm surprised at how much I enjoyed it. It did take me a little time to get used to the narrator but by a quarter of the way in I was really enjoying listening to the story. I can see myself buying more audio books in the future.
I'm a huge fan of Dorien Grey's and I would recommend his books to everyone. I love his writing style and I love the stories that he has to tell. I own a copy of all of his books and they have been reread.
Calico is a standalone western which is not a genre that I have had a lot to do with. Calico is also a coming of age story where our protagonist has to overcome many hurdles as he attempts to help orphaned twins in their quest to reach their aunt.
If the author writes any more books like this I will be reading and listening.

This author is such an amazing story teller. I haven't been disappointed once with his stories and I've listened to practically every audio book he has. A creative and talented writer he is!!! Oh my gushing for him could go on and on. -infatuated sigh-
Anyway, Mr. Grey's recipe for writing a fabulous tale of mystery, betrayal and romance is evident here with a western twist!!!
I will admit I was able to figure this out before the end but the story kept me entertained until the end and with a great cast of characters you had no choice but to care for, I couldn't have ask for anything more.
