Publisher's summary

Best-selling author James Patterson and award-winning sportswriter Mike Lupica team up to launch this power-family football thriller, a pre-game for their next blockbuster, The House of Wolves.

Meet the Wolf. Joe Wolf. He’s the head of a multibillion-dollar empire—a newspaper, a holding company, a football team—and the head of a family that puts King Lear to shame.

His empire shows signs of crumbling when he’s approached with an “offer” to sell. It’s clear from the start that Joe is going to pay the ultimate price—and maybe more—if he refuses.

Preview to the book, not that interesting

A little bummed. I've been a fan of James Patterson since I was younger and started the Maximum Ride books (the first three), and have read a great many of his books since then. This one, regrettably, did not catch my interest at all. If you are into football, or storylines being told from the perspective of a giant ***** (many expletive nouns would easily fit there, so take your pick), then perhaps you will like it. And, hopefully, the rest of the actual book is better than this except. I do not own to devote any more time to it to find out though.

Very Nice Set Up

Fear the Wolf by James Patterson and Mike Lupica
1h 14m narrated by Ellen Archer
House of Wolves #0.5

Genre: Mystery, Short Stories, Fiction, Audiobook, Sports > Sports

Featuring: San Francisco, California; Multi-billion Empire, Extortion Football Team, Audible Originals

Rating as a movie: R for adult content

My rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

My thoughts: I have read a few of these, find-out-what-happens-next prequel-novellas. Most of them I don't discover until after I read the novel and after reading I'm glad I skipped as the preview gave major spoilers for the novel, like A Witness to a Trial and The Whistler. In this case, I'm glad I read it, there is no major spoiler unless the bad guys are revealed near the middle or end of the novel. As far as I can tell this does exactly what it's supposed to do, set up the novel. I was a little disappointed as reading the first few lines of the blurb for The House of Wolves gave away the ending to this story, but it was still a good ride.

Recommend to others?: Yes. This is a nice little story if you have Audible.

Awesome! Thank you for the intro story

I loved the opportunity to learn more about the story's premise and characters. There's a million ways the next book could be awesome and I'm now excited to find out which!

Intriguing

I love most James Patterson books. The description of this one peaked my interest because it involved football and a female character that knows ore about the game than her siblings. I’m seriously intrigued and about to start the next one.

Teaser

Extremely short cliffhanger novella. An unknown person is going to kill the head of a sports team. That’s it. You have to buy the next book to find out who wants him dead and if he is dead

Joe says. He says. Joe says. Joe says.

He says. Joe says. Joe says. Joe says. He says. She says, Joe says. She says. Unless you want to hear these words spoken in monotone by the narrator, move on.
