Publisher's summary

Devon Marks loves books more than just about anything. They're his job and his passion, and they've brought him to an auction where he meets the hottest guy he's ever seen. When Brand Drake offers to let Devon come and value his extensive collection at an old mansion high in the Colorado mountains, he knows life as about as good as it gets.

Brand Drake knows he wants Devon the moment they meet, so he goes about adding Devon to his hoard the same way he would an amazing old book. But when Devon starts eating him out of house and home and showing signs that he has emerging dragon traits, he knows he hasn't just found a lover, he's found a mate.

When Devon starts to show signs of something even more amazing, Brand calls on his brothers Eagan and Tyson to help him figure out what to do, as well as how to tell Devon what's going on with his body, which is life-changing, and also dangerous. Someone always wants dragon magic to use, and Brand has to find a way to keep them safe, and to keep Devon with him, hopefully forever.

Magical Dragons!

Ok. I admit to being a fiend for books about dragons and fated mates. But this book is smoking hot. 🔥 I enjoyed reading this story and the rest of the whole series (there's an entire Dragon Veil universe out there..but this is book 1) but listening to this production made it even better. John Solo's narration was amazing and swelteringly hot...especially when he voiced the dragon growliness. I highly recommend you listen to this one if you like your dragons and mates a bit on the steamier side. I hope John narrates the rest of this series!

A new treasure

Brand is a collector of rare books and Devon has a passion for said rare books. When their love for books bring them together, Brand can't help but add Devon to his hoard as a new treasure.

But Devon turns out to be full of surprises and just what fate meant for Brand, a mate for him and his dragon.

This was a riveting tale of two individuals who were meant to be with passionate scenes, a bit of mystery and mpreg woven into the story to keep you engaged throughout.

The narration was a bit flat for me. I found myself struggling to hear the story at certain points but overall I enjoyed the coming together of these characters.

Excited to see this series come to Audible!

Minerva Howe has become something of a favorite author of mine. Her books are usually fluffy, sometimes funny, and full of….”love.” So take this as a warning that YES, there are copious amounts of smexy time between the two MC’s. However, it does taper off towards the end, which I think is appropriate since that is when the storyline really shines. There is also fated mates and mpreg. I forgot how cute Brand and Devon are together as finding this audiobook was a pleasant surprise and it had been awhile since I’ve read the series. The only thing that disheartened me was the narrator. I’m hit-or-miss with John Solo (usually miss) and I was going to be sad if his narration ruined what was a favorite read of mine. I did have to speed it up a little (1.2x), but I didn’t hate it! His OTT-ness that annoyed me in other audiobooks seemed to fit well with the characters, and the “omega” character (not really omega, but ykwim) didn’t sound like a girl, so I was happy enough. Not completely psyched about his Eagan/Ollie voices, but you can’t win them all. I’m not going to be able to wait for the next one to come out before re-reading the series as I forgot just how cute it is. And steamy. I much prefer this dragon series over her other one, but Howe’s shifter series is one to check out if you happen to like this book.

Let there be dragons

3.5 stars. There was way too much sex in this one, but that won't stop me from reading more as I did enjoy the story, when there was one. Devon is a human who as a passion for books & he works for a company that hunts & acquires rare books for collectors. At an auction, he meets Brand Drake, Dragon, and Brand is smitten by him. He ends up not only getting the book but offers Devon a job to catalog his extensive collection. Brands hoard is books so you can imagine how many he has. When Devon shows up at Brand's home, seeing the collection knocks his socks off. But then we get into, sex, sex and more sex. Turns out that Devon also has a latent dragon gene and that starts coming to the forefront. Also, before Devon finds out about dragon's, he ends up pregnant. In need for help, Brand contacts his brothers Eagan & Tyson to come help him out. I can't wait for their stories.

Stepping into the unknown

I read the book for this back when it was first published and I forgot how much of the story was focused on sex (way too much in my opinion). That aside, I did enjoy the portions I considered the “meat” of the story. The mysterious dragon prophecy and the problems with the vampire made for a good foundation for the series, if it’s followed through on. I had a great deal of sympathy for Devon as he was unwittingly thrown into a world teeming with impossibilities and danger. John Solo’s narration was very good as usual and the best part of revisiting this book.

good listen

I loved this book when it came out. I must have read it a hand full of times now then I saw it was coming out on Audio and my favorite narrator was doing it I admit I was happy dancing all over the kitchen. John did such a fantastic job bringing some of my favorite charters to life. I can't wait till he does the rest of the series.
