Publisher's summary

In 2003, Brian Keene's The Rising revived horror literature's dormant obsession with zombies. In 2007, Brian Keene's Dead Sea knocked that obsession on its ass....

The city streets are no longer safe. They are filled instead with the living dead, rotting predators driven only by a need to kill and eat. Some of the living still struggle to survive, but with each passing day, their odds grow worse. Some survivors have fled, frantically searching for a place to escape, even briefly, the slaughter around them. For Lamar Reed and a handful of others, that safe haven is an old Coast Guard ship out at sea, with plenty of water between them and the zombies. These desperate survivors are completely isolated from the dangers of the mainland. But their haven will soon become a deathtrap, and they'll learn that isolation can also mean no escape!

Deadite Press is proud to present this Author's Preferred version of Keene's over-the-top cult classic, which includes never-before-published material!

Different Zombies

Zombie novel that follows no known zombie rules. Keene returns to zombies outside of the Labyrinth mythos, rather enjoy full. A

A different take on the spread of the zombie virus.

I like how this story started off with infected rats. Usually when the zombie virus comes along, it’s man who’s infected. The story has an interesting twist where the virus jumps from species to species (without giving too much away) MULTIPLE species are infected! I find that little detail exciting considering I’ve read so many Z books, and they all start to sound the same. I definitely enjoyed this one. I was not expecting the ending, as it was bittersweet. But I would definitely recommend this book.

Dead Sea Delivers

Loved this dark, one off, end of the world story following a small group of survivors facing zombies, a burning city and then the high seas, all while attempting to stay a step ahead of the constantly mutating virus that's turning everything into undead monsters. Its not the story you might expect! The characters are 3 dimensional and well written as is the situation and their reactions to the obstacles they face. There were a few occasions when I asked 'why did they do that?' (firing loud weapons unnecessarily when they know the undead are nearby) but these are regular people trying to survive so we can give them some slack for making a few survival mistakes.

I particularly enjoyed the narration by Ron Butler on the Audible version. His voice was a perfect fit for the inner city characters and people of the city.

I loved it

Occasionally the author will repeat something, but I love the kind of joking way it was written along with the bleak and realistic atmosphere. No gun touting military man, or action hero survivalist. They make very human mistakes and suffer the full consequences. The only reason it got 4 of 5 was the irritating reputation.

Safe at Sea…

An excellent addition to the Zombie genre with a twist that may surprise you. Brian does a great job with character development and the narration by Ron Butler is perfect for the storyline. Well worth your time and credit. I received this audiobook at my request and voluntarily left this review.

Good book over all

The virus is like playing pandemic, Inc. when you randomly choose different things to effect

Got me again

Brian Keene got me again, dark ending to a great zombie story. I was waiting for what happened to happen, and it did. The character development was great for a zombie story where everyone is usually so one dimensional, and how he touched on the racial and homosexual stuff made this book even better. Mr Keene really has a way of making you like and care about the characters in the story, then kills them with little to no warning. I loved this book.

Great narration, soso to average story

The narrator does a great job with the work he's been given but the story feels very paint by numbers. While there are some great quiet moments and a couple big fun moments most of the story feels somewhat predictable and very fatty. I love a lot of Keenes work but this one just feels like it should've been a short story set in a compliation of Romero universe stories not a full size novel. I highly recommend listening to The Rising parts 1 and 2,The Seven and Earthworm God's to see him do similar work that's a lot more bombastic and fun.

Fairly solid story that really crushes hope.

It was a fairly solid story. I didn’t need reminded that the Main Character was Gay and Black several times throughout the story because it broke the immersion when it did happen. But I really liked how the virus adapted to cross the Zoonotic Barrier until not even the birds were safe from the virus which gave a sense of hopelessness. Over all fairly decent story with a couple shortcomings but I enjoyed it. Also… Zombie whale…
