Not worth it

This book is mostly about the before the event. The MC is a wimpy dude with no survival skills who never seems very good at anything. I guess it’s suppose to show how even this guy and his family could survive but it’s one of the few books you just can’t root for his survival.

Good!!

Loved it. Characters are a little dumb at times but I guess that’s to make things more realistic. Other then that good read ready for book two.

I liked it.

This genre is always hit or miss but the CME angle was interesting. I always enjoy having/hearing the build-up prior to the actual event. And the information from those trying to enlighten the main characters made me think same as the characters. I learned a few things and was kinda inspired to research morez I even relocated my old weather radio. There were several “Oh, come on!” moments with the main guy and his family. I literally said it aloud… many times. I didn’t find Jim whiny as some said, just clueless. The often soft spoken tone of the narrator’s voice did lend a bit to that but I think his friend, Lee said it best. The guy is “soft” and unprepared. But darn lucky to have a neighbor patient enough to hang around, stick with trying to change his mind and even leave him so much help, like he did. I found the antagonist storyline annoying. A junky, how original. Points for writing a book, though! And hey, had they not made “dumb” choices it would have been way shorter… Im usually listening to these mainly to pass the drive to work… so it was worth a listen to me.

True to Life

This was so believable because they didn’t make people out to be super human. We all want a hero but sometimes we want a normal persons view.

this book 1 of series is clear and realistic

I really enjoyed this apocalyptic book and looked for book 2 and 3. This series is realistic, sensitive and kept me looking for what came next.

Good story

Enjoyable story. Jim Grey is inept every step of the way, and that was frustrating. On a positive note, Jim was a regular guy and not a former SEAL, Army Ranger, Marine Recon, just a normal working guy and that in and of itself was pleasant.

Realistic storyline

Unlike other war or government conspiracy books about EMP’s, this book takes a solar event as the catalyst and follows what would be a very likely scenario of societal collapse.

Working through adversity

I enjoyed the characters and their determination to overcome adversity. I thought it odd that the wife would so easily dismiss her husbands request to return home sooner.
