Publisher's summary

The work tells the story of Jane's early life, her experience at Lowood School and as a governess. Her refusal to accept Rochester's love on any but her own strictly moral terms is a passionate cry for independence.

Wonderful classic

All should read this at least once in life. A wonderful classic to listen to. Performance could have been a bit better in distinguishing between each character’s voice. Overall a must for all.

I've always loved this book and the fabulous narration really brought it alive. I couldn't wait to get in the car so I could listen.

Stevenson is Extraordinary

What made the experience of listening to Jane Eyre the most enjoyable?

Juliet Stevenson is fantastic. I have always liked her as an actress, but I am astounded by her skill as a reader. She moved me to tears a few times. I highly recommend this version.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Jane Eyre?

While Stevenson did a great job throughout, I must say I was in awe of her reading of the passage about Helen Burns' demise. I cried and cried.

Which scene was your favorite?

Who can choose? So many are great!

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

We listened in several sittings. My daughter and I don't simply listen; we read along.

Any additional comments?

I am eager to listen to more of Stevenson's reading of the great novels.

Beautiful book and Juliet Stevenson is a magician

This book is gorgeously written ; a true masterpiece. Juliet Stevenson brought each thought, sentiment, and character to life like no other would. I wished it would never end.

Great story, the narration superb!

It is a well written story, engaging. The author evokes sympathy for what the characters are going through.

Marvelous yet somber

I had not read this since high school, over 50 years. I didn't recall all the sadness of the protagonist. Austin's words are so descriptive that one can envision every scene, person and thought. a great read.

Fabulous book and narrator

Jane Eyre is, of course, a fabulous book. But when narrated by Juliet Stevenson, it is brought to life in the most satisfying way. I have loved listening to this book and getting to know the characters (again) through Ms. Stevenson's lively narration.

Wonderful narrator

Juliet Stevenson is my favourite narrator, period. She understands the characters, and plays them amazingly. Some of the books I choose to listen is because of her narration, and not the book itself (although it obviously plays a role in the matter).
