Publisher's summary

The disappearance of a young internet celebrity ignites a firestorm of speculation on social media, and to find her a detective will have to extinguish the blaze.

Chloe Cates is missing. The 13-year-old star of the hit YouTube series CC and Me has disappeared, and nobody knows where she’s gone - least of all ruthless momager Jennifer Scarborough, who has spent much of her daughter’s young life crafting a child celebrity persona that is finally beginning to pay off. And in Chloe’s absence, the faux-fairy-tale world that supported that persona begins to fracture, revealing secrets capable of reducing the highly dysfunctional Scarborough family to rubble.

Anxious to find her daughter and preserve the life she’s worked so hard to build, Jennifer turns to social media for help, but the hearsay, false claims, and salacious suspicions only multiply. As the search becomes as sensational as Chloe’s series, Missing Persons Detective Emilina Stone steps in, only to realize she has a connection to this case herself. Will she be able to stay objective and cut through the rumors to find the truth before it’s too late?

Told from multiple points of view including Jennifer, Emilina, and pages from Chloe’s lost diary, Chloe Cates Is Missing is a suspenseful novel of a child pushed to the brink, and of the troubled family that desperately needs her back.

good contemporary thriller

This should be required reading for all family channel moms. it’s fairly well written for a thriller. fast-paced and holds the readers attention. I didn’t think the detective/mom backstory of an old high school murder was necessary for the plot and made the whole book less realistic and believable. I enjoyed Chloe’s story much better.

First Audible Review

I always told my fellow book club girls I couldn’t listen to a book. It’s not reading I said. But I decided to listen to this book on a long drive. I couldn’t stop. It was entertaining and easy. I will definitely listen to a book again on Audible.

Really good!

I loved how the story sheds light to the reality and dark side of family vloggers. Hopefully a wake up call for parents that don’t respect their kids privacy. Really interesting and the ending leaves you wanting more.

Super good job

I didn’t know what to think, when I randomly chose this book, but it had good reviews, so I dove right in. It was really a fun book to listen to, and I never felt like I knew what was gonna happen next it kept me on my toes and it kept me interested the whole time!

3.5 stars overall

No spoilers! But there might be some non-spoilery comments you may prefer not to even get in your head, I tried to be as vague as possible. I don’t reveal anything about the plot here.

This is a pretty good book. Overall the narration is excellent, although the mom and Chloe both can be a bit dramatic.

I found the story to remain engaging for the book length, the plot turns and twists were not all that surprising, even the ending. Where the author really nails it in my opinion is the character of Chloe’s mom, she has nightmare momager done so well that it made me shrink back in disdain quite a few times.

Without spoiling it, I find the weaknesses in the characterizations and some plot issues to be with Chloe’s dad and the police detective who is trying to solve this case. I’m still not sure how one could be so weak and the other could have that history. (Neither relates to the other).

I enjoy mysteries and found this one to be worthy of a binge listen and a relisten to see if anything makes any more sense the second time around. I do have to wonder…maybe I missed something…how did the momager turn out to be so awful? I mean, we know this from the first page of the book, even the description, but I don’t know how she came to be so utterly insufferable and horrific. I do feel like a plot hole is left unexplained at the end, my last question is “Is this character going to do the right thing or did we find that out just to know she continued on with life as usual?”

Well done

I was looking for a new author and I saw a tweet that the book was listed in the top 40 on an Amazon list. I’m really glad I bought the audiobook. Solid story and narration.

WHAT ???

I really was enjoying the story, great mystery that kept me paying attention more than I have done for other books. But the ending..oh my gosh!! That was a disappointment. The way it ended to me said one word Equal
