Publisher's summary

In this Ugly Duckling retelling, New York Times best-selling author Melanie Dickerson brilliantly crafts a high-stakes, encouraging tale about a brave young woman, the true meaning of beauty, and the power of love.

Ever since she was a child, Audrey wanted her life to be extraordinary. But as the daughter of a viscount born in late 14th-century England, the only thing expected of her was to marry - until an act of malice by her sister, Maris, four years ago damaged her face and her prospects. Though Maris was sent away, 20-year-old Audrey is still suffering the scars of her sister’s cruelty. When her father announces his plans to marry off his damaged daughter and bring Maris home, Audrey decides to flee in search of her true destiny.

Life outside her home is dangerous, and Audrey soon finds herself attacked, sick, and in desperate need of help. She is taken in at Dericott Castle to be nursed back to health. While there, she decides to keep her identity a secret and work as a servant in the castle. But she doesn’t count on falling in love with the young and handsome Lord Dericott, who lost his arm several months earlier and bears scars of his own.

Meanwhile, Edwin - Lord Dericott - is curious about the new, well-educated servant’s identity. All he knows is that he’s quickly becoming smitten with her. When the man Audrey’s father wanted her to marry comes looking for her, she and Edwin must make life-changing decisions about what to believe and whether or not love is truly worth trusting.

Love all of her books!!!

Can’t wait till a new series comes out! The reading is always exciting with never slow boring moments and not overly dramatic that it isn’t realistic. Jude Mason’s voice is one of my favorites.

Beautifully written!!

I loved this book. I love how the focus is always on trusting God.
This book was so easy to listen to, the story telling flowed so well.
I hope we get to hear the love storys of the rest of the brothers, and see more ways of God's provision!
This book was such a nice way to relax.

I loved the evil sister as the villain

I like all her books. They are short and make good reads in between longer books. I like the moral and biblical Theme the characters have. I like how the heroin is sweet and kind but also strong. She is still sensitive and let’s the man lead while being strong in a feminine way. Sometimes modern stories of this type try so hard to make the heroine strong she will lose her femininity. This can make the romance seem a bit off putting and not swoon worthy. But I love the classic feminine fairytale style stories. If you like this genre I would highly recommend this author.

The reader is BAD

The reader is horrible, she can’t pronounce basic words and names. You don’t like the main character, she seems vain, dumb, and full of herself… I feel bad for the sucker she goes for. This is not up to par with other books by this author.

Can’t Finish

I really want to know what happens with the rest of the brothers, but I don’t think I could listen to another book. The narrator turns all of the women into whining women. They’re supposed to be strong heroines.
