Publisher's summary

CASPers - Combat Assault Systems, Personal - are the lords of the future battlefield. The massive mechs were created to give humanity an edge against the rest of the mercenary forces in the Galactic Union.

Just like today's tanks, though, massive amounts of armor and weaponry just make the CASPers "hard to kill", not "invulnerable". There are things in the galaxy even stronger than the CASPer, and when humans run up against them, it's up to the human inside to figure out a way to snatch victory from the jaws of defeat.

CASPer Alamo includes two new stories by Eric S. Brown and Jason Brannon, loosely recreating the Battles of the Alamo and Isandlwana on a galactic scale. When all seems lost, it's up to the mech operator to save the day!

Good addition to 4HU

Biggest disappointment was so few stories. otherwise great. Narrator was a little flat on expressing feelings sometimes.

Thin and plodding

There was one character that wasn’t utterly forgettable, and he was barely more than a one dimensional counterpart to a stereotypical arrogant asshole.

The military TOE and tactics used by these “seasoned veterans” would be recognized as terrible by anyone who has been in an Infantry unit more than a month, and are just pants on head stupid. Maybe if your only experience with military matters is an FPS, this might be entertaining, but if you’ve spent any time in a combat arms unit, your eyes will roll so far back in your head that your optic nerve will snap. Hell, anyone who’s played a military strategy or tactical game will know this.

The worst of the already rather weak Four Horseman universe.

Story is super weak and drags on

I tried to finish the story and made it half way before I couldn't take it anymore. The plot is super thin and is just dragged out. In my opinion the only connection this story has to the main universe is it has the Caspers. save your time and money and skip this book

So far my least favorite entry in the 4HU.

I finished the first story and it was a bit of a struggle. Second one just isn't going to happen

Not expecting a literary masterpiece but...

Wow, just wow. This is bad in just about every way an audio book can be. The stories are both cliche, overly predictable, and dull. The characters are not memorable, the creatures they face; generic. The narrator is just as disinterested as the listener. Lacking character, inflection, or range you’d think they were reading stereo instructions as opposed to a pulp sci-fi action romp. I increased the play speed to get through it. Skip this one, it detracts from the rest of the 4HU.

The WORST 4HU stories BY FAR

Wow, these supposedly Alamo-inspired stories are truly stupid crap. Battle hardened mercs navel gazing and hand-wringing their way through existential crises *in the middle of combat* about the moral or ethical nature of their work? Are you fucking kidding me? This is truly stupid bullshite. "Oh these poor savage, primitive natives who engaged in wholesale slaughter of the humans who first arrived here, gosh, that must really be our fault though and we deserve the hideous pain and torturous deaths they've done to us, surely". These idiotic stories are poorly disguised diatribes against those evil capitalist conservative butchers who dare to protect humanity. Yes some of them are arseholes, but those who weren't got special treatment, their deaths graphically and brutally described, their hideous pain and slow ripping dismemberment just another thing the characters deserved somehow. Such crap.
