"possibly the worst book I've ever read"

While I appreciate the optimistic idea, the book is painfully repetitive, droning on the same point. Written as if for very young children, but not interesting enough for even their attention. I felt very annoyed after the read.

I can find a book to love in any genre -- a beautifully written classic, an interesting mystery or sci-fi, a trashy romance. Bring it!

"Good info on how to be more positive"

STORY - (self help) The author of this book uses a cute, short story about two dogs who live in an animal shelter to make his point. One dog has a negative attitude (Matt) and the other has a positive attitude (Bubba). Throughout the story Bubba teaches Matt simple steps how to be happier and more positive in daily life. There are many good lessons in the book, but the bottom line is that you need to continuously work at finding the good side of things and being thankful for them. The rewards are better health, less stress, being happier, attracting more friends, etc., etc. I don't consider myself a negative person, but I still think I will benefit from having heard this little story.

PERFORMANCE - The author reads his own work, but I would have preferred a professional narrator. He does an okay job, though.

OVERALL - Recommended for everyone. It's only 1 1/2 hours long and is a pleasant, easy listen. Audible categorizes it as a business/professional book, and I can definitely see how some of the advice would help in a business or team setting as well as for individuals.

    "disappointing"
Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

Nothing new here - except the presentation concept. Idea is supposed to be 2 dogs "talking" to one another. It was certainly unique in that way. Not bad, once you get past the dog thing. It's good to be reminded of these time worn ideas. I really didn't expect, nor did I appreciate, the religious piece. This should have been mentioned in the reviews/previews-I would not have bought the book. That, in my opinion, is a very personal issue. One does not have to pray to have a positive life or to be positive person.

Have you listened to any of Jon Gordon’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Gordon's performance was average, at best. I have never listened to a book that was read by it's author that was above average. There is a reason that authors hire actors to read their books! It brings them to life and makes them more interesting. One thing that was especially weird was hearing Gordon's voice as the main characters/dogs, then hearing the exact same voice in the recap at the end of the book. It definitely didn't jive.

Did The Positive Dog inspire you to do anything?

To think about being more positive. Which, I think, any "refresher" book on positivity would have accomplished. Still, it's always good to hear it again.

"Clichés and endless Facebook memes, UGH"

After reading a review of another book, for which I am considering using my next credit, it was mentioned by another reviewer that REFUNDS ARE POSSIBLE. Well, I will be asking for one for this lame ass book; very amateurish narration (we can HEAR THE PAGES being turned, HELLO!) and poor editing (one phrase was cut off only to be repeated in the same sentence). Seriously, every point he made has been made better by someone else in my Facebook News Feed. Plagiarism and clichés abound. Don't bother.

    "Very disappointing"
What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

    Nothing.

Has The Positive Dog turned you off from other books in this genre?

    No.

You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?

It might have been okay if I were 12 years old with no life experiences.

    Any additional comments?

This was very disappointing book. It was very shallow and written for an immature audience.

the story is somewhat simplistic and often feels cheesy, but it gets the point across. Nothing earth shattering here.

Besides incessant listening to audiobooks, I also read on my Kindle at night, birdwatch, garden (roses, daylilies), and do genealogy.

    "Odd Little Lecture"

Very simplistic and child-like in tone. It might be used in a therapy group for disturbed or alienated teens. Or maybe better with tweens. Yet, who can argue with a lecture on how to regain or infuse some positivity into one's life?

Fun, light hearted. It has great points that you have heard in my other positive affirmation books. This book just puts a fun spin on it. the last 15 minutes or so were my favorite.
