"More for consumer vs. sales person"
What did you love best about Influence?

Great content with regards to supporting literature and case studies.

Who was your favorite character and why?

    NA

What did you like about the performance? What did you dislike?

    The Good:
Professor Brown executed the performance well. He particularly did a great job tying everything together at the end of the lectures. It is obvious that the content was well thought out.

    The Bad:
I gave the performance a 3 out of 5 stars only because I felt the perspective was a tiny bit biased. During the lectures of sales and being both a consumer and a sales person. I felt that he treated sales as something to be afraid of, or to protect yourself against. This became especially apparent when he mentions his personal accounts with sales people. Don't get me wrong, I did get some good take aways being a professional sales person. I felt, however, that the content would be better suited for a cautious consumer than an aspiring sales person.

    Was it worth it?
I do believe it was worth listening to. I learned a lot, and despite what I felt was a biased perspective of sales, he conveyed a lot of helpful tips and data that I benefited from.

What did you learn from Influence that you would use in your daily life?

The most important points I took away were on the lessons of public speaking. He had great examples of his concepts and related them together in a very interesting way.

    "WOW"

For me personally this book is really great at expanding your level of knowledge about influencing others and how to identify those who might use influence for malicious purposes. As always the great courses lectures give excellent examples of persons in history that model the level of influence and ethics that are needed to become a great leader

It did a good job of giving you acronyms to help you remember the points, as well as stories and examples of research to help illuminate those acronyms

Worth a listen but I've found other books to be better. A difficult perspective was nice. Recommend the book influence over this one

    "too scientific"
What did you like best about Influence? What did you like least?

    Good sound quality. Good reading.

Would you be willing to try another book from The Great Courses? Why or why not?

    yes

Have you listened to any of Professor Kenneth G. Brown’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

    no

Who do you think would benefit most from listening to Influence?

    the author, the publisher

    Any additional comments?

Too much verbage on the scientific methods of influence. There was way too much reading of test studies. This book could have been 1 hour or less without reading all the studies.

"Don't waste your time or money"
This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?

The book was draged out far to long with space fillers. More stories about nothing than actual useful information.

What could The Great Courses have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

If they would have covered the subject and not rambled on with stories. The book would have been 15 minutes at the most if it was just about the influence subjects.

What didn’t you like about Professor Kenneth G. Brown’s performance?

No not at all. If I was driving while listening to this I would have driven off the road from falling asleep.

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

Definitely disappointment. Im going to call in and get a refund back on this one.

    Any additional comments?

It is ashame that this one was this bad!

    "just saying words"
    What disappointed you about Influence?

too many technical words just thrown in there
They did ok for the first couple of chapters, then it went way too technical and totally lost influence over me.

Has Influence turned you off from other books in this genre?

    no

Would you be willing to try another one of Professor Kenneth G. Brown’s performances?

    no

This is a really good course, looking at the relevant research without being "academic". It is useful, practical and well informed with examples of interesting studies and cases.
    Well recommended.

The Great Courses are fantastic but the accompanying materials should also be available. Their absence detracts from the overall experience.
