Publisher's summary

Burt Reynolds reads three of Robert B. Parker's finest Spenser novels:

Chance: Big-time Boston hoodlum Julius Ventura wants to find his only daughter's missing husband - even though it's pretty clear to Spenser and Hawk that Julius isn't telling the whole truth. Something about the case appeals to Spenser's passion for justice, though, and he launches an odyssey into the netherworld of organized crime.

Hush Money: When Robin Nevins is denied acceptance into an exclusive university, Spenser is eager to investigate. It seems the denial is tied to the suicide of a young gay activist, and as Spenser digs deeper, he is immersed in a multicultural swamp of politics: Black, gay, academic, and feminist. Meanwhile, Spenser's girlfriend, Susan, asks him to come to the aid of an old college friend who is being stalked.

Small Vices: Ellis Alves is no angel. But when his lawyer says he was framed for the murder of a college student, Spenser agrees to help. From Boston's back streets to Manhattan's elite, Spenser and Hawk search for suspects. But when a man with a .22 puts Spenser in a coma, is the chance for justice dead?

Burt really nailed the essence of Spenser & Co.

The first time I heard Burt Reynolds read Spenser I wasn’t blown away. I had been spoiled by Joe M. After deciding to start this series again at the beginning and listen to everyone up to Joe, I have to say, Burt was the best up to that point.
The only drawback is that the quality of the recording isn’t amazing. I had to turn it up a bit louder than normal to hear everything and the musical segues were too loud and obscured the reading.
That being said, this series shares with the readers the brilliance of two legends who are no longer with us.
A great deal and a great privilege!

I wish he did more

I like the usual Spenser narrator, but BR is really good. I thoroughly enjoyed his performance.

Excellent writing and narration.

Very good value too as RP wrote relatively short novels and this trio satisfies very well.

Vintage Spenser

I loved hearing Burt Reynolds do the narration. I heard these three Spenser stories over thirty-five years ago. I could not remember how they wrapped up the cases but the format and descriptions of dialogue were typical Spenser scripts. It was like hearing new Spenser stories.

Wonderful

Wonderful! Small Vices is one of the best Spenser novels and it sets up a great 4 book arc.

Good entertainment

Good collection of Spencer adventures. The pace of the stories moves along at a speed to keep the listener's attention and interest in 3 good plot lines. Mr. Reynolds does a solid job as narrator. Character development in all 3 is very entertaining. Recommend this selection.

Burt is perfect

Incredibly well performed. A pro reading a pros work. I actually finished reading the last two chapters as I was refereeing and running the score clock for my church’s basketball league, between quarters and at half time, of course, and came back to listen to the audio of the last 4 chapters.

Two greats!

Loved the combination of Burt Reynolds and Robert B. Parker. I've always loved both, but together is awesome. I will probably be dissatisfied to listen to anyone else read the Spenser novels.

Great narration

All three stories were well written and entertaining. I will be reading more in the Spencer series. It’s as good as the Jessie Stone series.
