Publisher's summary

Simple and proven physical practices designed to improve the way your body feels—less stiffness! fewer aches and pain!—and boost the overall quality of your life, no matter how you spend your time. From the innovators behind The Ready State and the movement bible Becoming a Supple Leopard.

“The definitive guide for building an all-around healthy and high-performing body and mind.”—Andrew Huberman, Professor of Neurobiology, Stanford University & Host of The Huberman Lab Podcast

After decades spent working with pro-athletes, Olympians, and Navy SEALs, mobility pioneers Kelly and Juliet Starrett began thinking about the physical well-being of the rest of us. What makes a durable human? How do we continue to feel great and function well as we age? And how do we counteract the effects of technology-dependence, sedentary living, and other modern ways of life on our body’s natural need for activity?

The answers lie in an easy-to-use formula for basic mobility maintenance: 10 tests + 10 physical practices = 10 ways to make your body work better

The book offers:

  • Easy mobilization practices to increase range of motion and avoid injury
  • Intuitive ways to integrate more movement into your daily life and escape sedentary habits
  • No-fuss guidelines for improving nutrition and sleep
  • Basic breathing practices to manage stress and pain
  • Quick and simple assessments to gauge progress and what needs improvement

It’s full of foundational wisdom for everyone from beginners to professional athletes and everyone in between. Built to Move introduces listeners to a set of simple principles and practices that are undemanding enough to work into any busy schedule, lead to greater ease of movement, better health, and a happier life doing whatever it is you love to do—and want to continue doing as long as you live. This book is your game plan for the long game.

* This audiobook edition contains a bonus PDF of exercises, daily routine breakdowns, food prep charts, and other useful resources from the book.

Good stuff here

Built to Move is a highly engaging and informative read that sheds light on the importance of keeping our bodies active and well-nourished. The author skillfully presents a variety of interesting ideas ranging from balance and hip mobility exercises to dietary recommendations. The book's easily comprehensible language makes it accessible to everyone, regardless of their fitness background or expertise.

As a reader, I found myself eager to try out the strategies and techniques provided in the book. The author's approach resonates with common sense, and the explanations provided for each concept are clear and concise. Although skepticism regarding the research in this industry is understandable, the book does a commendable job of presenting evidence-based practices that are well-grounded in science.

However, it is crucial for the reader to approach these claims with a critical eye and assess their individual needs before implementing any specific suggestions. Despite these concerns, Built to Move is undoubtedly a valuable resource for anyone looking to improve their overall health and mobility. The book succeeds in inspiring readers to adopt a more active and mindful lifestyle, which ultimately leads to a healthier and more fulfilling life.

Life Changing!

This book opened my eyes to what I had been missing. My body hated exercising because my mobility was terrible! I learned more beneficial tips in this book than I have in a year of seeing doctors, physical therapists, and nutritionists.

This book affirmed many of the positive things that I’m doing already and also gave me some great ideas to add to my daily movement life. I really appreciated the suggestions around mobility outside of exercise.
