Publisher's summary

Audie Award Nominee, Humor, 2013

For fans of Tina Fey and David Sedaris - Internet star Jenny Lawson, aka The Bloggess, makes her literary debut.

Jenny Lawson realized that the most mortifying moments of our lives - the ones we'd like to pretend never happened - are in fact the ones that define us. In Let's Pretend This Never Happened, Lawson takes listeners on a hilarious journey recalling her bizarre upbringing in rural Texas, her devastatingly awkward high school years, and her relationship with her long-suffering husband, Victor.

Chapters include: "Stanley the Magical, Talking Squirrel", "A Series of Angry Post-It Notes to My Husband", "My Vagina Is Fine. Thanks for Asking", and "And Then I Snuck a Dead Cuban Alligator on an Airplane".

Editor's Pick

Alas, poor Jenny…
"Just like the taxidermized, Yorick-like mouse on the cover, Let's Pretend This Never Happened is awkward, weird, and hilarious—as is the writer, Jenny Lawson, of The Bloggess fame. Her narration, too, makes this listen truly sing—quite literally when she belts out the chapter titles like a manic, singsong opera star. The whole package is so genuine and vulnerable that I frequently laughed to the point of tears as she regaled her experiences dealing with anxiety, depression, and social missteps. This is a title that could only be written by Lawson herself."

Laughed a lot

Jenny Lawson's mind works in strange and funny ways. The book is a bit long, but most parts were very entertaining.

The Only Memoir You Will Ever Need

Jenny Lawson (The Bloggess) is able to do everything in this magnificent story of a person dealing with the circumstances out of her control. She has takes you on a ride from a child arsonist to a wonderful yet eccentric wife and mother. She is able to make you laugh so your side hurts and make you cry (both from laughing and true raw emotion). This is a memoir that you want to listen to over and over again and will never get tired of. It is one of the best books I have ever read and can't wait to listen to it again.

So good I listened to it twice!

Jenny Lawson has changed my life with her stories. She’s hilariously funny. She doesn’t take herself too seriously and embraces her upbringing in a way that allowed me to accept my own. She got me reading for recreation again after years of not picking up a book unless it was required for a college course. I love her delivery. I love her humor. I love her.

Listen if you need a few good belly laughs until you cry. You won’t be disappointed.

About that vagina . . .

Not even in “The Vagina Monologues” is vagina mentioned so much. And those were very interesting monologues. The stories in this book are humorous anecdotes chronicling a young woman’s life, childhood to marriage and motherhood. They are interesting too, and would have been better served by omitting the overuse of the word “vagina.” It just sounds like a toddler obsessing on a newly-learned word. In fact, the last ten minutes of the book was entirely unnecessary as it only reminded me of the worst part of this book.

Normally a fan of stream-of-consciousness narratives, I found the author's rapid fire style in the audio recording a bit much for me. Hence, I found myself in no hurry to return to the story.

Good book, though it could have been better.

Loved it, until I didn't

Highly entertaining at first, but became too crass for me after a couple hours. I really wanted to love this book. The author's narration style was great. Just too much cussing, in my opinion, and the topics bordered on vulgar.
