Publisher's summary

What would happen if a shy introvert lived like a gregarious extrovert for one year? If she knowingly and willingly put herself in perilous social situations that she’d normally avoid at all costs? Writer Jessica Pan intends to find out. With the help of various extrovert mentors, Jessica sets up a series of personal challenges (talk to strangers, perform stand-up comedy, host a dinner party, travel alone, make friends on the road, and much, much worse) to explore whether living like an extrovert can teach her lessons that might improve the quality of her life. Chronicling the author’s hilarious and painful year of misadventures, this book explores what happens when one introvert fights her natural tendencies, takes the plunge, and tries (and sometimes fails) to be a little bit braver.

Inspiring, funny

This book is well-written, inspiring and very funny. Jessica is real, honest, vulnerable. I’d already been doing scary things to face my fears, and Jessica’s story makes me want to be more brave in this endeavor.

Funny, charming book

Loved the humor and emotional warmth of this book. The author’s narration was wonderful and took me along on her many adventures through a year of stepping outside of her introvert-focused comfort zone. From talking to strangers to stand up comedy, she pushes herself to try new things and make new friends.

Introverts unite!

Truly loved this book on many levels; entertaining, funny, informative ans relatable. As an introvert who has often been misunderstood - it’s refreshing to read this story that’s both hilarious and a reminder that growth can happen without letting go of our introversion.

Encouraging memoir: Sorry, cheer

From the very first page, Pan's writing draws you in, weaving a narrative that resonates deeply and leaves you cheering for her every step of the way.

I love the candid honesty, Pan shares her fears, doubts, and triumphs, allowing me to not only witness her transformation but also reflect on my own life. Pan's ability to blend self-deprecating humor with poignant insights creates an engaging and empowering read.

Throughout the book, Pan's storytelling prowess shines, I was immersed in her experiences as she tackles everything from extroverted challenges. Each chapter is a mini-adventure, brilliantly capturing the mix of anxiety, excitement, and growth that comes with stepping outside one's comfort zone.

What I love the most is Pan's unwavering authenticity. Her vulnerability in sharing her journey is a refreshing reminder that it's okay to feel uncomfortable and to embrace our imperfections. I was invested in her progress, celebrating her victories and sympathizing with her setbacks. I was rooting for Pan the entire time but also felt inspired to push myself beyond any self-imposed limits.

The humor in "Sorry I'm Late, I Didn't Want to Come" is another standout aspect. Pan's sharp wit and clever observations infuse each page with laughter, turning what could have been a daunting exploration of the unknown into an entertaining and uplifting experience. Her ability to find humor in the most unlikely situations helps to create a delightful balance that keeps the reader engaged from start to finish.

In the end, this book is more than just a memoir; it's a call to embrace life's adventures, to step outside our comfort zones, and to celebrate the joy of growth and self-discovery. I felt encouraged, motivated, and excited to embark on my own personal journey, no matter how big or small.

"Sorry I'm Late, I Didn't Want to Come" is a beautifully written, relatable, and humorous account of one woman's quest to conquer her introversion and embrace life to the fullest. Jessica Pan's engaging storytelling, genuine vulnerability, and infectious humor make this book an absolute delight. So, if you're seeking inspiration, a good laugh, and a reminder that stepping outside your comfort zone can be transformative, don't hesitate to dive into this remarkable memoir. You won't be disappointed.

Great book for today’s reality

I have no idea why I bought this book, but it seems I really needed its message. I really enjoyed the stories, author’s honestly and ability to find humor in her adventures. I will recommend this story to my friends and my kids- there are friends everywhere and people after pandemic really struggle to connect.

Jessica’s candor is impeccable!

I’m also an introvert albeit an outgoing introvert!

Don’t get me wrong, I still need to recharge though!

What a wonderful book!

I got the audio book and I’m so glad that Jessica was the one who narrated it - it made all the difference!

Her candor is spot on!

And doing improv is on my ‘bucket list’ too so this reminds me to check into that again! :)

Jessica is an amazing writer and she has a way with words that keeps you hooked!

I related to and cracked up at many parts of this story!

Brava, Jessica!

I hope there’s a movie or Netflix type of series in the near future! :)

Thoroughly Enjoyed

“Your dad can talk with anyone,” my mom said. “Yes, but should he?!” I think. And so it begins. . .I thoroughly enjoyed this book because I understand and identify with Jessica Pan’s stories about being an introvert. I think it grand that she was able to put herself out there in the world to try new things and meet new people. She discusses her experiences with humor and honesty and I would love to be her friend.
