Publisher's summary

Audie Award Nominee, Humor, 2013

For fans of Tina Fey and David Sedaris - Internet star Jenny Lawson, aka The Bloggess, makes her literary debut.

Jenny Lawson realized that the most mortifying moments of our lives - the ones we'd like to pretend never happened - are in fact the ones that define us. In Let's Pretend This Never Happened, Lawson takes listeners on a hilarious journey recalling her bizarre upbringing in rural Texas, her devastatingly awkward high school years, and her relationship with her long-suffering husband, Victor.

Chapters include: "Stanley the Magical, Talking Squirrel", "A Series of Angry Post-It Notes to My Husband", "My Vagina Is Fine. Thanks for Asking", and "And Then I Snuck a Dead Cuban Alligator on an Airplane".

The care of family, friends, and a trusted therapist, practicing mindfulness, engaging in calming hobbies like yoga, journaling, walking in nature, or listening to music—these are just a few of the strategies that can ease the overwhelm. We’ve handpicked some of the best audiobooks that can soothe the symptoms of anxiety, break patterns of negative or unhealthy thought, and help ground or comfort you when things get tough.

Editor's Pick

Alas, poor Jenny…
"Just like the taxidermized, Yorick-like mouse on the cover, Let's Pretend This Never Happened is awkward, weird, and hilarious—as is the writer, Jenny Lawson, of The Bloggess fame. Her narration, too, makes this listen truly sing—quite literally when she belts out the chapter titles like a manic, singsong opera star. The whole package is so genuine and vulnerable that I frequently laughed to the point of tears as she regaled her experiences dealing with anxiety, depression, and social missteps. This is a title that could only be written by Lawson herself."

Laugh till you cry

Would you listen to Let's Pretend This Never Happened (A Mostly True Memoir) again? Why?

I am slightly addicted to Jenny Lawson now, she also has a blog. I have recommended this book for my book club & anticipate a night of laughter. Although humor is her gift, she battles some personal demons & isn't afraid to share her life in this memoir. If you want a sample, check out Beyonce the Giant Metal Chicken on FB or her blog.

Quietly Passing Notes Under The Bathroom Door...

I found this book to go pretty much down the middle. There were parts that were quite humorous and then I found parts that the book could have done without. Her story is interesting, but I would have preferred if she had gone further into a couple of her more personal issues. I imagine that details were omitted to keep the story cheerful. Having the author read her own work is a huge plus. Overall, this was a funny and light read. Finally, if you make it to the end, you are in for a big surprise that will make you want to listen to this book all over again! Warning: Please read responsibly.

Hilarious and hilarious

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I would absolutely recommend this book. Jenny Lawson has a self-deprecating wit that is subtly outlandish. I literally laughed until I cried, well mostly. This is a book that can bring anyone out of a funk.

Encore!

What other book might you compare Let's Pretend This Never Happened (A Mostly True Memoir) to and why?

Mindy Kaling's book

What does Jenny Lawson bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

It's her memoir spoken with her intonations. I would imagine I could pick-up on her humor, but it is delightful when the writer provides the "true" intention of the book.

freaking hilarious.

Bookclub choice of the month.
Totally hilarious and well narrated. Jenny delivered the laughs. Her family seems like the kind of people most would run away from screaming, but I am kind of envious I didn't have that kind of craziness in my home growing up. Great stories in this book. 11/10 would recommend. 😂

Loved the second book

It could've done without the sing song intro's. And the music, story was entertaining though

AWESOME, AMAZING, HILARIOUS

What did you love best about Let's Pretend This Never Happened (A Mostly True Memoir)?

the performance. no one can read & perform it any better than Jenny herself.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Let's Pretend This Never Happened (A Mostly True Memoir)?

the chapter about drugs, the chapter about blogress, the chapter where she got lost, the chapter about jinkens, the whole book is memorable. sometimes it remineded me of myself. i can totally relate myself to Jenny. i mean not that i have the mental illness but i tend to drift away in conversation. also i dont mean to be rude to say i dont have a mental illness and other ppl have, that would be extremly rude but you know what i mean here. ;)

Which scene was your favorite?

the drug scene was just hilarious. i had to keep my face straight while driving and listening to it but it was so hard.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

"Let's Pretend it never happened"

Any additional comments?

i strongly recomment this book to my friends and listeners here if you want something to brighton your day. i am just hooked to this book. i listened to this book two times already and i am sure i will listen to it again and again.
