Publisher's summary

These social worker bear shifters give the term mama bear a whole new meaning! Best-selling author MaryJanice Davidson is back with this brand-new paranormal romance series featuring a foster care system for at-risk shifter babies and teens.

Werebear shifter Annette Garsea is a caseworker for the Interspecies Placement Agency. When a selectively mute and freakishly strong teen werewolf is put in her custody, Annette has to uncover the young girl's secrets if she's to have any hopes of helping her. And not even the growling of a scruffy private investigator can distract her from her mission....

Bear shifter David Auberon appreciates Annette's work with at-risk teen shifters, but he's not sure if her latest charge is so much a vulnerable teen as a predator who should be locked up. All that changes when he, Annette, and her motley band of juveniles find themselves dodging multiple murder attempts and uncovering a trafficking cartel that doesn't just threaten the kids, but risks discovery of the shifters by the wider world of homo sapiens.

Just What I Was Looking For

It was a mystery, with paranormal elements followed by a little romance. The characters were intelligent. The men were not overly macho and screaming mate every 5 minutes. The story was so good that I probably would've listened to it without the paranormal twist. But it all comes together nicely I'll definitely read the other books in the series. Narrator was great, but I might slow it down next time to pickup more of what's going on.

My Type of Romance

I am not direct cuddly words person and this book captures my form of love exactly. The humor this book displays is top notch and I smiled throughout the entirety of the reading. Wow. This is my first book by this author and I cannot wait for more.

Great book! I wish a few MSWs would listen to it.

Loved this book and especially how it deals with predjudicis. It is really good especially given today's attitudes!

Looooved it!

I've listened to this and the 2nd book multiple times already. I really enjoyed all the interjections and playful side notes.
I checked them out from the library on Overdrive and then had to buy them.
This was my first read/listen of Mary Janice Davidson and listen of Susan Bennett's narration. The book was great in and of itself, but Susan's narration really brings it to life.
My brain finds safety in repetition and by that I mean I've only started listening to the book in the last 6 weeks and have listened to it 6 or 7 times, plus Oz's story as many times, too.
Thank you Mary Janice for a hilarious but kinda serious story and Susan for being so stellar at your art.

Choppy and Rough.

I had a hard time following who was speaking, admittedly I wasn’t super interested in the story as the author made her characters too over the top, but still not interesting. I didn’t really get to know any of them besides the fact, they are supposed to be super caring social workers. All the characters acted like they had ADHD and no depth. I almost felt like I was dumped into the middle of a story as there was no explanation of this world or the characters behaver, which also makes the name of the book not fit the story. First time I have read this author and she has many great reviews, but I could not finish this book and will likely not read anything else by her. Narrator was good.
