Publisher's summary

At first everyone thought it was a game....

But aliens have arrived, and they are turning people into fertilizer.

Brad and Sam are gamers. And when they started playing the hot new game Apocalypse Online, they had no idea that the game was a preview of reality! With the help of a benevolent alien AI and nanotechnology, our heroes will have a chance to survive the apocalypse. They just have to survive, level up, and find other survivors.

Jake is no gamer. But when he finds out aliens have arrived, he'll do anything to protect his little sister, Sam.

Will they be able to grow strong enough for the second wave, or will they become alien plant food?

Apocalypse Online is a LitRPG/GameLit, post-apocalypse fantasy series filled with action, adventure, aliens, and snarky AIs.

If you are a fan of System Apocalypse, Defiance of the Fall, or the Sun Shadow series, you'll love Apocalypse Online!

Pretty good with some pretty standard exceptions.

It’s starting to feel like there is a common denominator for LitRPG audiobooks that are pretty good but not great… they all either lack good alpha and beta readers or the authors of these books have good readers that they aren’t listening to.

The reason I say this is because it should be the pre-release readers that are pointing out the places where relatively intelligent characters do totally idiotic things for the sake of the plot. I can’t count how many GameLit audiobooks I’ve listened to in the past couple years that all have this in common.

Maybe the authors are just sick of re-writes or maybe they’re not picking well-read people for their A/B readers. Whatever the reason, this issue is so wide spread that I’m starting to feel like it deserves an extra star reduction penalty.

So from the above you can guess what my primary complaint about this audiobook is. It has some other issues on top of that, but overall it was a pretty good story. Pavi Proczko gives his usual competent but work-a-day performance which in this case didn’t hurt the story too much.

If you’re like me and have listened to everything that isn’t an unmitigated pile of crap in the GameLit genre then this is worth your credit. But if you spend less than 2-3 credits a month then there are guaranteed to be better options available to you.

Definitely a Good Read!

Starting reading this as I wait for my list of other series to come out with new stuff. Love the idea and worth listening to. Looking forward to knock the other books out.

Entertaining

I liked the overall plot and the caricatures needed a little more in-depth creation it was a nice read without the unnecessary long winded descriptions other litrpg’s have

Worth your time and credit

This is one of the better litrpgs out there. Good and interesting story with excellent narration. Listened start to finish in one night which sums it up pretty good right there.

Newer concept for Apocalypse book

When I first found it I was kind of curious by the first few chapters and then the story started to open up and connect everything together overall an amazing beginning to the series and anyone who loves apocalypse science fiction or alien books I feel would really love and enjoy the storyline and the Narrator does a very good job capturing the emotion I already pre-ordered the Second book

Alien apocalypse

Apocalypse Online

Apocalypse Online is a MMORPG with very hash rules. You start off pretty weak and there are no respawns, no safe zones, nothing. If you die, you start back at day 1 with nothing. Things suddenly changed when Brad noticed that the same alien invasion sky in the game is in the real sky right now. That pill that he received may not be for advanced VR technology after all!

This was a very interesting story! It was great to see how the different people worked together or against each other as the world falls apart. All of the characters are very well developed. The only complaint that I would have is how quickly everyone moves on and gets to alien fighting. I guess when they start clawing at you, you don’t have much of a choice! Pavo Proczko does a great job with the narration.

Don't Judge a book by its cover!

So I will say it, the Artwork for book 1 and 2 is extremely lacking. Hate to say it but the visual context is just as important as the story to capture the attention of most litrpg readers these days. But the story is pretty amazing its a great build up and believable. Its not a slow burn, but it does have the world building and direction to bigger and bigger problems the MC's will have to address and look forward to seeing how they face them.
Pavi's narration is amazing and is one of my 5 favorite narrators.
