Publisher's summary

Sophie Beckett never dreamed she'd be able to sneak into Lady Bridgerton's famed masquerade ball - or that Prince Charming would be waiting there for her! Though the daughter of an earl, Sophie has been relegated to the role of servant by her disdainful stepmother. But now, spinning in the strong arms of the debonair and devastatingly handsome Benedict Bridgerton, she feels like royalty. Alas, she knows all enchantments must end when the clock strikes midnight.

Who was that extraordinary woman? Ever since that magical night, a radiant vision in silver has blinded Benedict to the attractions of any other - except perhaps this alluring and oddly familiar beauty dressed in housemaid's garb whom he feels compelled to rescue from a most disagreeable situation. He has sworn to find and wed his mystery miss, but this breathtaking maid makes him weak with wanting her. Yet if he offers her his heart, will Benedict sacrifice his only chance for a fairy tale love?

good listen

I haven't read a historical romance outside of mm romance in quite awhile, but Julia Quinn was a favorite author of mine. When I saw this book was available on Escape, I decided to check it out again. The scene where Benedict realizes who Sophie is will probably always remain a favorite for the tension and angst. There are things about how men treated women (even the ones they cherished) in historical romances that while possibly accurate, don't really do it for me in the here and now, but this remains a favorite series that I am glad I got to revisit.

Excellent romantic story

The story roughly follows the plot of Cinderella, but it has its own twists that keep it fresh. There are some leaps in time that surprised me, but perhaps the characters needed time to gain some life perspective. While it might have been interesting to follow along with Sophie while she ventures out in the world on her own, I was glad the story focuses on the moments when her path crosses Benedict’s. The interactions between the two are highly enjoyable, and it’s easy to lose lots of time while listening to this story. There are some secondary plots that need more tying off, like who is writing the society pages?, but the HEA ending is very satisfying.

Best out of Series, So Far!

Although the beginning of the book was TOO SIMILAR to "Cinderella," I was glad that some originality existed within the story. So far, I've enjoyed this audio-book more than the author's first two (within the series).

This is my favorite Bridgerton book yet! I loved it! Similar to Cinderella, but with so much more naughty details!

In true Bridgerton fashion. Does not disappoint!

Benedict was already my favorite Bridgerton brother, but I love him even more now. Sophie's story is heart wrenching and somewhat relatable to my childhood. A much better Cinderella story than the original!

Easy and Entertaining Listen

Book 3 is as fun and amusing as the first two in this series. The interaction between the characters keeps the reader guessing what's next. And what's next is always a surprise. Romance, history and strong characters make this book an easy and entertaining read.

I liked it!

I felt like it dragged a little bit in the middle and I wanted them to hurry and get on with it and I wish at the end there was more time to explore their life right after the wedding and how the siblings took the news and all but overall I was sad when it was over which is always telling about whether I liked it or not!!

Interesting twist on a fairytale

A bit Cinderella-like, but a great read! I enjoyed this sequel in The Bridgerton series.
