Publisher's summary

Can a kiss at Christmas make all the difference?

Mary Rose has one goal for her mother’s annual Christmas Eve party: Convince her childhood friend Julian Mayes to marry her. With her mother wasting away and the doctor refusing to deal with a young lady like Mary, she needs the power of a husband.

She has always admired Julian. Surely one moment under the kissing bough will convince him they were meant to be together. Newly hired by a prestigious London law firm, Julian Mayes is ready to shake the dust of the countryside off his polished boots. But he’s always had a soft spot for Mary. As the danger to her future becomes clear, will one kiss be enough to prove to him how far he will go to protect her?

If you like sweet Regency romances, you’ll love this origin-story, quick-listen novella connected to a popular series by an award-winning author. Claim your Christmas kiss today.

It will only take one kiss!

I listened to an audio book of Always Kiss at Christmas. The English accent of the narrator made the book come alive. You will enjoy how Mary Rose endeavors to get Julian under the Christmas bough because she knows he will discover that he wants to marry her after one kiss! The activities at the manor Christmas party were interesting. I recommend this novella to others.

Love's First Kiss in Regency England

Always Kiss at Christmas is a prequel short story in the Fortune’s Brides series by Regina Scott. Each book in the series starts with the mysterious Miss Meredith Thorn and her beloved cat Fortune as they place down on their luck gentlewomen in places of employment during England's Regency period. This book is an origins story centering around Miss Thorn when she was 16 years old and known as Mary Rose.

Mary Rose and her mother are hosting their annual Christmas Ball and everything seems to be going well, except for the vultures that are circling around the party as Mary's mother is gravely ill. Their home is entailed and Mary will soon be kicked out as soon as her mother passes away. Mary is desperate to marry the one man she has always been fond of, her neighbor and friend Julian Mayes. However, Julian is a newly graduated lawyer and working for a prestigious law firm in London. He doesn't have time for a girlfriend, let along a wife. Throughout the party Mary keeps getting distracted by playing hostess until finally she gets Julian alone and they experience true love's first kiss.

As with the other stories in the series, I listened to the audiobook version of this story, narrated by extremely talented Jannie Meisberger. I highly recommend this story - and the entire series - to anyone who enjoys well written regency romance, without all the salacious details. I also recommend listening to this delightful series in order as each book builds on the relationships introduced in the prior book in the series.
