Amish Nurse Returns Home

Annie Weaver, an RN living in Philadelphia, is called home when her father has a serious accident, breaking both legs. She has kept the details of her rumschpringe secret from her family. Instead of being off dating and doing many of the things that many Amish teens do during this time of freedom, Annie pursued education, first getting her GED, then going to nursing school. Working at Mercy Hospital and getting attached to her patients, particularly one young cancer patient. But even before her father's accident, Annie was homesick. And afterward, she was more than ready to return home and care for her father and rejoin her community. But fitting in wasn't exactly what she had hoped for. She missed her patients. And most girls of her age in the small Amish community were already married with children of their own. Yet, little by little, Annie, with the wisdom and help of her mother and family begins to learn that she does have a place and purpose within the community, and that God knows exactly what he is doing. Vannetta Chapman is one of my favorite authors and A Simple Amish Christmas is another outstanding example of a faith-filled story with a wonderful message of love and hope.

Beautifully written

I loved this story, and would love to hear more from this author. This story was different than other Amish romances. I can't wait to hear more from this author.

Great story. Not great male voices.

The story was the expected sweet love story, and while predictable, that's sometimes just the story you can sit back and enjoy without having to think too hard or concentrate on names/places too much. However, while the narrator did a great job with various women's voices, I couldn't get past the way she read the male voices. For most of the book I thought one of the main male characters was an old man. (I later realize he is supposed to be 30 years old.) While he is portrayed as older and wiser than his years, he was given a grandpa voice. It made it hard to feel any connection between the characters because of that.

A Simple Amish Christmas

This is a sweet story about how God uses the things that we may consider bad for His good and to carry out His will! Definitely a good story for teenagers.
