Publisher's summary

It is 1893, and the first generation of immigrants who came to America for the promise of free land and a good life for their children have finally achieved their dreams. They labored hard on the land and now have a bountiful heritage to pass on to the next generation. However, many of the young people aren't interested in becoming farmers - they have aspirations of their own.

Thorliff Bjorklund has been writing stories and plays since he was a young boy and longs to attend college to study journalism. But his father has other plans for him and refuses to agree.

Thorliff is torn between love for his father and the pull of his dream. Must he choose between the two?

it's giving yoohoo big summer blowout!

the narrator was cringey to the max. the Norwegian accent was awful and sounded like oaken from frozen. Honestly though the female southerners may have been the worst. absolutely tragic. I couldn't even focus on the story because the narration was so distracting.

The narrator will drive you nuts!

I have really enjoyed this series up to this book. It’s not the book, but the narration. I have never sped through a book faster. I turned up the speed to get it done quickly. There are important facts of the story that are only in this book. He makes everyone sound like nasal country bumpkins and it drove me to distraction. You may just want to check this book out of the library…

Blessing Dakota

I absolutely love Lauraine Snellings books. The characters, everything about the to Blessing Dakota series is wonderful. I have loved all the narrators until now, this gentleman read it very well, But his voice on the other characters. I just couldn't listen to It. I can stick but I did not enjoy that part of it..

Story is good, but the narration is not.

I would have preferred the narrator to jut read the book instead of trying the over-done Norwegian accents. When the narrator uses his natural voice, it's got a very nice tone and depth. Honestly though, the only narrator I have liked for this series is Stina Nielsen. The first one couldn't pronounce Ingeborg (pronouncing it with a D at the end.) I'm looking forward to re-listening to the last part of the series where Nielsen takes over. I'm a commuter and audio books are the only way I can enjoy a book. So, I'll bear with it because I know the book itself will be good. I'm guessing the narration choices were made by producers anyway.

Good story line but …

I enjoy this writer but for me, the narrator was not engaging. While I appreciate the efforts to include many voice types/dialects, the Southern accent in particular grated on my Tennessee nerves. This is the first of her books I have not finished on audible, may have to read this one

Horrible narrator

Why did you change narrators? The lady that was reading the books was great. This man was terrible.
