Publisher's summary

What if, one morning, you look in the mirror and no longer recognize the person looking back?

When Leelo can no longer identify herself by the roles that once defined her, it's both terrifying and liberating. Oh, she feels the loss, grief, and the anger, but when she inherits property up north, she jumps at the promise of freedom and independence. Yet, not everyone in her new community is what they seem, starting with the surly mountain man down the road.

As owner of the local fishing lodge, Roar is content with his everyday life. And the older he gets, the less he appreciates change. So, when a blue-haired, tattooed "city girl" moves into the old motel, shaking up his daily routine, he’s none too pleased. Still, something about the woman’s easy smile and almost reckless grit has him step up as her keeper.

Exceptional in every way!

Audiobook: Narrators - Anneliese Rennie & Austin Barringer

What an exceptional narration! This was my first by Mr. Barringer and holy heck, I was completely blown away. He gave his performance so much more than what you normally find in audio-books and I’ll definitely be looking for more from him! Ms. Rennie also brought out these characters with plenty of drama.

I went into this one blind but secure, because anything by this author is going to be safe for me as well as have all the requirements I look for in a great book. So I was a bit surprised by this heroine, Leelo, but I quickly learned to love her. I thought I was going to have an issue but I soon saw her for what she was underneath all the exterior as well as her sometimes harsh demeanor.

Roar on the other hand had me falling in love immediately. Big, bearded, grumpy with few words spoken...oh yeah! Add in that Leelo aggravated him on a whole new level than most and he had me completely.

While this had some drama pertaining to the business Leelo was trying to kick back into gear, the relationship did not. That doesn’t mean there weren’t times this couple had their flare ups and I actually loved watching them deal with them...and make up.

I truly enjoyed everything about this story as well as all the secondary characters and I hope we get to see more of them in the future.

Leelo and Roar

This is a great starting over story. Getting a new start and overcoming obstacles along the way. I loved that this was an older couple with adult children. Great romance and I would recommend this book. I enjoyed the audio as well.

Great story.

Anneliese Rennie and Austin Barringer we’re fantastic as Leelo and Roar. They really embodied the characters in this book.
Leelo and Roar have each in their own way have had devastation is in their lives and had to create new dreams for themselves. Freya writes such great characters and watching these two develop a friendship and then a relationship was a beautiful thing.

Loved it!

I have all three books in this series, and they're all great, but this one was by far my favorite. It hit all the key points for me. I may also be partial to this one because I can relate to the MC on so many levels lol

Sweet, realistic story of a 40ish couple with an air of mystery

No billionaires, sports stars or perfect people here. Or crushing angst . Instead, a gruff hardworking man meeting his match with a recently divorced
woman finding herself with a much needed change in scenery. Both are carrying baggage accumulated from living life for 40+ years. Slow burn romance mixes well with a growing mystery occurring outside their control. Story builds to a satisfying conclusion.

This is my first listen of Austin Barringer. He does a great job and I hope to listen to him in the future😍. Anneliese Rennie does a fine job with the tough as nails heroine. But, I actually enjoyed her supporting characters better.

Not your typical romance

Leelo has reinvented herself from the docile stay-at-home mom to the take-charge, tattooed, multicolored hair bad@$$. She moves to a small town just outside of Sault Ste. Marie, Canada, where she has inherited her uncle’s rundown bar/motel. Leelo’s first run-in with her neighbor, lodge owner-Roar Doyle-will have you rolling with laughter. In spite of Roar’s misgivings about Leelo, he can’t hep but be attracted to her. But this isn’t all fun and discovery for this pair, someone is playing costly ‘pranks’ on Leelo. Will she give up and return to the city? Throw in an @$$hat ex, bratty daughter and Roar’s sort-of-ex and we have enough drama to keep us entertained. Enjoy these stories of mature adults.

Second Chapter Romance

A great second chapter romance set in a beautiful small town setting. I enjoyed the cast of characters that come with the setting and life stage of the main characters. There are laughs and swoons and heart strings tugged. All the feelings that you read a romance for.

The performances by the narrators perfectly fit the parts. I enjoyed both and will look for more books narrated by each of them.

Excellent book! This is a must read!

If you're looking for a romance with real middle age characters you have found it. Maybe I loved it because I grew up in the midwest bordering Canada or I loved it because I love audiobooks. I could go on and on. This is an authentic story with a mystery twist.

Great story

Being divorced, Leelo decides to keep her uncle's motel she inherited and leave the city for the Canadian mountains except the hotel is in despair. Leelo is determined to bring it back to life again. While trying to cover a hole in the roof above one of the rooms before a storm hits, she's trapped when the ladder falls away. The flapping of a tarp catches Roar's attention on his way back to his lodge; he decides to investigate not realizing there's a woman stretched out on top of it trying to hold it down.

Roar owns a lakeside mountain lodge where his property buts up to Leelo's. After saving her from her mishap on the roof, he decides to help her with the repairs to her motel. They are attracted to one another and their friendship turns into more. Will someone determined to "convince" Leelo to sell her property cause her to lose everything or will her and Roar get their HEA.
