About the Creator and Performer

With a famed and storied career that has spanned more than six decades, Dan Rather has been one of the world’s best-known journalists for much of the last half century. He has interviewed every president since Eisenhower and personally covered almost every important dateline of the last 60 years. Rather joined CBS News in 1962. He quickly rose through the ranks, and in 1981, he assumed the position of anchor and managing editor of the CBS Evening News—a post he held for 24 years. His reporting across the network helped to turn 60 Minutes into an institution, launched 48 Hours as an innovative news magazine program, and shaped countless specials and documentaries. Upon leaving CBS, Rather returned to the in-depth reporting he always loved, creating the Emmy Award-winning Dan Rather Reports on HDNet. Now, building upon that foundation, he is CEO of News and Guts, an independent production company he founded that specializes in high-quality non-fiction content such as The Big Interview with Dan Rather on AXS TV, now in its eight season with more than 140 episodes. After the 2016 election, Rather became known for his social media postings and currently has nearly five million followers on Facebook and Twitter.

Enjoyable, honest romp thru half of US 20th cent

Dan Rather starts out a little slowly but quickly gets his footing. He had a rare, up close seat at most of the critical US events from 1960s-early 2000s. Elections, presidents, assassinations, wars, 911 - Rather was literally in the middle of the stories. This short audio is a fine history lesson from a professional storyteller who is surprisingly humble. It's definitely worth your time.

Respect for him

What a life he has lived! And narrated us through the big events. How I long for the days of Cronkite and Rather, investigating and then just reading the facts, plain and simple. This is an engaging trip down memory lane. He is funny, heartwarming and touching. And I love how he has reinvented himself, at the age of 88, into a social media activist! Much respect to you, sir!

Truth

He still speaks the truth. Truly telling and chilling at the end. I do hope his warning is heeded. VOTE!

Dan Rather is the real deal

Dan Rather tells these stories with intellect and emotion, reporting on his own life. I liked the sound bites also, used sparingly, of his actual reporting at key moments in our US history and his broadcast life.

An exceptional life of reporting and living out freedom of the press. Kudos to Dan for his newsworthy life and reporting and reporting the worthy news throughout his life.

Informative and Inspiring

Great background on a public figure in the last half of the 20th century; great wisdom and grace from an incredibly experienced individual. Highly recommended!

The Forest Gump of News

Was he the hardest hitting news reporter?
No
But he was there at many of the biggest events of the late 20th century, and so has some interesting stories to tell.
He also offers a good assessment of our current world and offers some useful advice at the end.

A worthwhile listen.
