When a dead scuba diver is discovered during their road trip vacation to Monterey, CA, Zack, Jillian, and the two corgis, Sherlock and Watson, become embroiled in a race to discover what the diver had been doing when he died. Compounding their investigation is the presence of a group of playful otters, who just so happen to be using what appears to be gold coins as tools to open shellfish. Are the two events related? Could the deceased diver have located a sunken treasure ship off the coast of Monterey?

A US Marshal puts in an appearance in Pomme Valley, Oregon, searching for a fugitive rumored to be hiding in the area. Meanwhile, Detective Vance Samuelson manages to convince his friends, Zack Anderson and Harry Watt, to join an adventure-seeking thrill club, the Dysfunctional Daredevils, in an effort to prove they're all still young at heart. And, as luck would have it, the US Marshal believes his missing fugitive just might be among the Daredevils, hiding in plain sight. 

While working his winery's acreage, Zack is shocked to discover a complete skeleton buried in the ground, undisturbed for decades. Suddenly, the police are taking an interest, too, and Zack could be in trouble. The bones of Charles Hanson, father of notorious femme fatale, Clara Hanson, are thought to be linked to a man named Red Dawg, a miner believed to be responsible for the start of the Oregon State Gold Rush in 1850.

Just as they are planning a big holiday dinner, there are no cranberries to be found in the shops. In cozy Pomme Valley and other nearby towns, someone is breaking in and stealing only the cranberries! What's up with that?

A mysterious package appears on Zack Anderson’s doorstep. When he opens the crate, there’s an elaborate silver chest, obviously quite old, with Celtic markings and no apparent way to open it. Zack is almost content to accept the artifact as a decorative item…until people start coming after it. The only conclusion is that the box contains something of great value. Zack, Jillian, Sherlock, and Watson are on the case, tracking down the unusual item, learning tidbits about the box’s history, and discovering that it dates back to an unsolved theft in Ireland.

To celebrate Zack's latest writing accomplishment, namely hitting the NY Times best sellers list for his latest book, Heart of Éire, Zack, Jillian, and the dogs fly to New Orleans to help promote the book at a large book expo. Accompanying them are none other than good friends Vance and Tori Samuelson, since it was the detective's idea to write a story featuring his Irish wife in the first place. However, once they arrive, a blatant attack during the exposition sends everyone into a panic.

Sherlock and Watson have been cordially invited to Buckingham Palace for a meeting with the Queen of England herself. Recognizing how inappropriate it would be to decline such an offer, Zack, Jillian, and the dogs head across the Atlantic to visit the United Kingdom.
