Still a Great Story

I have read this book many times and I still love it! It is such a wonderful, exciting, and fun book. I haven't really used Audible that much, so I couldn't give a good review. Now that I have been listening for awhile to several different authors I feel I can. I am hooked! I can now knit, do dishes, clean, whatever while still listening to my favorite books. Jeffery Poole is one of my favorite authors so I am listening to all the Corgi Case Files, and I am loving it! Any of his books are worth reading but being able to listen to them is just a bonus. I hope he can get his first series on here as well. I look forward to listening to all his books now. If you really like a good mystery with a little dark humor this is for you. The author really knows how to keep you interested and pull you into the story.

Excellent audiobook only marred by a cliffhanger

Corgi detectives Sherlock and Watson solve yet another case in Case of the Muffin Murders by Jeffrey Poole. Pomme Valley gets hit with a rash of murders, and Zack Anderson's corgis get called in to do their magic yet once again. First, someone dies of arsenic poisoning, and then the next day, another citizen dies of carbon monoxide poisoning. When a third resident dies the third day, the dogs become Pomme Valley's best hope for solving the murders.

I had a good time listening to this fifth book in the Corgi Case Files series. The dogs are a delight, and I have thoroughly enjoyed seeing Zack evolve from someone who doesn't care about dogs to becoming the staunchest of dog lovers and defenders. The characters are very familiar by now, but even to a neophyte to the series, they will come across as round and soon become friends. The mystery is intriguing, but it seems almost secondary to the life that Zack has built around him after suffering the bereavement of his wife in a car accident two years earlier and moving to Pomme Valley, Oregon from Phoenix to start a new life. My single complaint is that this book concludes with a massive cliffhanger, just as the previous book did. Anyone familiar with my reviews knows my scorn for that literary device, which I feel is used to manipulate the readers into wanting to purchase the next book in the series. Just for that cliffhanger, I have to remove one star from my rating.

Bob Johnson performs the audio version of Case of the Muffin Murders, and he embodies Zack perfectly, making me believe that I am listening to Zack himself speak. He has fun with the wry humor and somewhat cynical wit of Zack, and that joy transfers itself to us listeners. Johnson makes me connect to this audiobook especially effectively.

I appreciate getting to listen to Case of the Muffin Murders and enjoyed getting to visit again with the corgi detectives. The audio of this book added to the positive listening experience. It's a shame that it was hurt by the dramatic cliffhanger, giving it four stars.

For the love of Corgis

This series gets better and better with each book i have listened to. Again, we have three murders that all seem to link back to some muffins. Of course, Watson and Sherlock are on the case. Helping Zack and Vance to find the clues needed to stop the killer before they murder again. This time it might be Jillian.
The author has created a fantastic story line with wonderful characters. My favorites are Watson and Sherlock.

Bob Johnson does a fantastic job with the narration of these books. He is a fantastic narrator.

I was gifted this book at my request and i am voluntarily leaving an honest review.

More shenanigans.

Sherlock and Watson are at it again, I might add they also brought Zack along for interest. Taylor a friend of Zack's not quite girlfriend Jillian, is having some strange bad luck occurring at her bakery. After Vance enlists Zack's, or more accurately Sherlock and Watson's help on a murder scene, it seems the two issues may be connected. Is someone sabotaging Taylors food? Or is the owner of the local coffee shop to blame? More importantly who will be next? Add in to the mix the mystery still surrounding Zack's late wifes demise and you will keep guessing until the end. I look forward to the next book in the series and hope we can finally get to the bottom of Zack's wifes death. My favorite detectives!

dogs, verbal-humor, situational-humor, murder-investigation, law-enforcement

The amazing detectives are a pair of Corgis belonging to a local winery owner who is thinking about courting the owner of the cookbook store. Suddenly there are three murders within a couple of days and the Corgis are diligently put to work at the request of their friend, the local police detective. Soon suspicion falls on another friend, the bakery owner who has had nothing but difficulties at the shop for the past few weeks. Great sleuthing by Corgis and humans alike. Lots of humor as well! Loved it!
Bob Johnson is the perfect narrator for this snarky cozy!

Plenty of humor & mystery!

This is one of my favorite series because of how it perfectly blends mystery, humor, and dogs with a perfect cast of characters. There is plenty of banter and hilarious moments mixed into the story which makes you feel like you really know everyone personally. Bob narrates Zach so well, he brings his wit and personality to life. It’s been fun watching Zach start out in book 1 as a bit of a hesitant dog owner to now being so involved with Sherlock and Watson.
All in all, if you like fun lighthearted mysteries with humor, a great cast and some cute dogs then this fits the bill!

Case of the Muffin Murders

Zachery,a romance writer, is caught up in another murder investigation in PV. His girlfriend, Jillian, is involved also since it's her friend who's being set up. His two corgis, Sherlock and Watson, use their noses to sniff out clues hoping their owner will understand what's going on. Clues abound but it isn't till Jillian started her thoughts on the circumstances that the penny drops for Vance, the cop, Zach and even the woman being set up. Now the race is on to stop a fourth murder from happening.
Bob Johnson is a remarkable narrator whose voice and mannerisms bring this story alive!!
Fantastic audio and story!!

Baked Goods Can be Deadly

When three murders occur with in the space of a few days, Sherlock and Watson are called in to solve the crimes and track down the killer in this Corgi Case Files novel.
I love these adorable pooches and self-depreciating master and I really enjoyed trying to unravel the mystery of who and what was killing the victims and, of course then answering the question why. The ongoing story line also makes significant advances in this volume, both with regard to the hero's love life and the mystery of his former wife's death.
A fun and very enjoyable cozy mystery.

Actually 4-1/2 stars

I'm on book 6 in the series now and am enjoying it thoroughly. The characters are well-drawn and appealing, the plots are clever, and who doesn't like dogs? Since they're cozy mysteries they tend to get a little sappy in places, but that's to be expected and doesn't detract from the stories overall. The narrator is well-suited to the type of story and, if his vocal characterizations are somewhat unimaginative, generally he does an excellent job. What caused me to want to subtract half a star is the lack of either a dictionary or a diligent editor. There are a number of Inigo Montoya moments ("You keep using that word -- I do not think it means what you think it means.") and grammatical blunders in each book which are, to put it bluntly, pretty jarring. That said, the series is worth following and recommended.

So entertaining!

I love the Corgi Case Files for the engaging characters and irreverent humor. The Case of the Muffin Murders is my favorite so far. The corgis' antics made me laugh out loud and their human dad, Zach, really shines through in this one. The narration was excellent. My only quibble was with the killer's unlikely motivation. Some vulgar language, but it was pretty mild and didn't put me off.
