A panel from the lost Amber Room looted by the Nazis in 1941 comes on the London art market. Two mutilated bodies are discovered on wasteland in Moscow. Initially the two events seem unrelated. Senior Investigtor Nikishin, troubled by the recent loss of his wife and haunted by the presence of his dead daughter, is assigned the case. Then the murder of a specialist art thief in London and a Bond street dealer on his luxury yacht on the French Riviera set in motion a chain of events that find Nikishin, and his SPBR team pitted against the assassin known as the Caretaker.

This short story is a tale of the surgeons working amid the chaos and carnage of Gettysburg in 1863. For Josiah Boyd, hell is 24 sleepless hours, every one of them scalpel in hand, standing under a cross in a nameless church atop a dusty hill after a pointless battle. For too many good men, this is where the world ends.

College student Meg Talley survives a violent attack, but when she insists her assailant was a hideous, monster-like creature, she is called hysterical. Journalist Douglas Morgan, private eye Nick Grundel, and horror novelist Blake Corbett, however, have each theorized the mangling, incredible though it seems, might be the work of a werewolf. Now they team up with Meg to peruse an intensive investigation. Neither skeptics nor believers are prepared for the bone-chilling terror and cataclysmic violence that will be unleashed in the night of the January full moon....

On a moonless night in 1945, a destroyer sinks a U-Boat, 50 miles off Hatteras Island, the graveyard of the Atlantic. Over a half-century later, the mummified corpses of three crewmen, wrapped in a decaying rubber raft, come to light during excavation for a new shopping development. Their reappearance unleashes neo-Nazis, drug smugglers, and a shadowy "historian" with an ominous plan.

The Dunker Church is one of the most iconic structures of the American Civil War. Surprisingly, few people know much if anything about its fascinating story or the role it played within the community of Sharpsburg and its importance during and after the Battle of Antietam. September Mourn: The Dunker Church of Antietam by Alann D. Schmidt and Terry W. Barkley rectifies this oversight in the first book-length study of its kind. On September 17, 1862, two mighty armies grappled across the rolling hills, fields, and woodlots surrounding Sharpsburg, Maryland.

Listen to the leaves rustling. Hear the wind building. These could be the first signs Gideon Berlander has found you. They could be the last sounds you hear. Gideon hasn’t been the same since that terrifying night in the cave, the night he changed forever - the night he became a wind caller. But the power to call upon and control the unimaginable force of the wind in all its fury has warped him, twisted his mind, and unleashed a virtually unstoppable monster. Those who oppose Gideon are destroyed...horribly. No one can escape the wind.

Have you seen the movie The Sandlot? Well, that was pretty much my childhood. As a 10-year-old, it seemed the mysteries of life came alive through baseball. This is a story straight out of those glory days of playing baseball on the diamonds of Southern California, of the smell of cut grass in the outfield, of hitting impossible homers on and off the field. And of ghosts. This story is very much about the ghosts of childhood. I wrote it some years ago, mostly for my son who had passed not long before. He loved baseball, and the best year of my life was coaching his youth team.

At 6:01 pm on April 4th, 1968, Martin Luther King was shot. He was pronounced dead at 7:05 pm at St. Joseph's Hospital in Memphis, TN after a failed attempt at open cardiac massage. He was 39 years old. King was standing on the balcony outside room 306 on the second floor of the Lorraine Motel when, in the words of biographer Taylor Branch, time on the balcony turned lethal and King's sojourn on earth went blank. But why? What kind of damage did that bullet do? Was King doomed the moment that piece of lead crashed through him? Is there any action that might have saved his life?

What if you were driving a desolate North Dakota highway in a 100-year storm, and the only other car on the road was...wrong? “There are monsters among us. I mean this quite literally.” So begins this vivid tale of what our narrator (an old man on his death bed, once an itinerant scalpel salesman) tells us wasn't the most visceral moment of his life, but was the most horrible.
