Arthur Dent hatte schon lange keinen so schlechten Tag mehr wie den, an dem die Erde in die Luft flog. Deprimiert und einsam, wie er ist, lässt sich Arthur schließlich auf dem kleinen Planeten Lamuella nieder, wo er sich als Sandwichmacher hervortut. Die Aussicht auf ein fortan geruhsames Leben wird allerdings zunichte gemacht, weil dort unerwartet seine Tochter auftaucht.

Die Erde ist doch nicht gesprengt worden! Arthur Dent ist nach seiner Odyssee durch den Weltraum wieder auf dem Heimatplaneten gelandet...

Praticamente Inofensiva é tão polêmico quanto seu criador. Muitos o consideram o último volume da série O Mochileiro das Galáxias e outros afirmam tratar-se de um título independente, que apenas utiliza os mesmos personagens. Parte dessa controvérsia se deve aos 13 anos que separam este livro da primeira aventura de Arthur Dent, já que Adams iniciou a coleção no final dos anos 1970 e somente em 1992 retomou a história.

Pátá a závěrečná část slavné série v podání Vojty Kotka, v níž Arthur Dent hledá tiché místo v odlehlém koutě vesmíru, kde by mohl v klidu strávit zbytek života. Jeho přání se splní – dostane se na mírumilovnou planetu, na níž život plyne bez větších vzruchů a problémů. Její sympatičtí obyvatelé žijí na technické úrovni odpovídající zhruba pozemskému osmnáctému století, a tak se Arthur horlivě snaží přijít na to, které výdobytky své rodné civilizace by mohl novým spoluobčanům zprostředkovat. Odpověď je překvapivě jednoduchá.

Ve vesmíru se může stát cokoliv a tak i na odstrkovaného tvora jako je Pozemšťan Arthur Dent čeká jeho hvězdná hodina. Kupříkladu může potkat spřízněnou duši Frenchurch, která své jméno získala podle nádraží, kde ji její nudící se rodiče zplodili ve frontě na lístky.
