The Marvelous Land of Oz is book two in the Oz series by L. Frank Baum. In this story, we meet a young boy named Tip. His guardian Mombi is a wicked witch and Tip is always met with anger and abuse. One day Tip has had enough and seeks revenge on the witch, building a wooden man with a pumpkin for a head, hoping to frighten Mombi. His plan backfires and while not fooled, Mombi demonstrates her own power by bringing the aptly named Jack Pumpkinhead to life. Not yet done with her abuse, Mombi informs Tip she will turn him into a stone statue as punishment for his deceit.

This odd little nursery rhyme is familiar to us all but have you ever wondered, like I have, about what Miss Muffet was thinking as she sat dreamily eating her curds and whey? And what are curds and whey, anyway? Her tuffet? Would that be a piece of furniture or a piece of her anatomy? And of course the large spider, what was she thinking?

On her way to a ranch outside San Francisco, Dorothy is caught in an earthquake that sends her; her escort, Zeb; and her kitten, Eureka, to a familiar land and familiar faces. But when Eureka is accused of eating Princess Ozma's pet piglet, she stands trial and risks death.

Twinkle and Chubbins witness the cruelty of humans firsthand and find themselves in danger as well.

"Rinkitink in Oz" is the tenth wonderful book of the Land of "Oz" series written by L. Frank Baum. The full and extended title says a bit about what's going on in this enchanting and more than slightly mad world: "Rinkitink in Oz: Wherein is Recorded the Perilous Quest of Prince Inga of Pingaree and King Rinkitink in the Magical Isles that Lie Beyond the Borderland of Oz". In this story, Trot, a young girl from California, and her peg-legged sailor friend, Cap'n Bill, find themselves on a perilous voyage when a whirlpool leaves them stranded in an underwater cave. There they are befriended by a most curious creature - the Ork. With four paddle-like wings, legs like a stork's, a parrot's head, and a tail like a propeller, the Ork proves to be a very welcome and helpful companion.

The Island of Yew is divided into five kingdoms, the central of which, Spor, is a place ravaged by crimes and robbers. One day, a young girl, Sesely, living in the nicer kingdom of Heg, is enjoying a picnic with some companions. A fairy comes down and begs them to help change her into a human. Sesely and her friends, amazed, obey her orders and soon they find themselves in the company of a young man, named Prince Marvel. Prince Marvel desires to go on adventures and become a hero, which he is able to do easily enough in crime-ridden Yew.
