"Much attention has been paid to the "scientific romance" novels of H. G. Wells, a founder of modern science fiction and one of the genre's greatest writers. In comparison, little attention has been given by critics to his works of fantasy, which in the opinion of many, are just as artistic and worthy of study. This work takes a critical look at Wells' little known fantasy "The Sea Lady": A Tissue of Moonshine, which is "a parable of dark foreboding that unveils the nothingness of utopian dreams" and foreshadows Franz Kafka's dark fables of the totalitarian age.

Butteridge, Bert discovers, has plans to sell his invention either to British Government—or to the Germans, if the British won’t have it. When one of Butteridge’s aircrafts is shot down while Bert is aboard, Bert stumbles across a secret German plot to destroy the United States. As the story unfolds, Bert finds himself in an unexpected position, called upon to perform tasks he never could have foreseen.

In this famous fantasy story, a mountain climber falls into a strange and isolated society of non-seeing persons - claiming to have been in existence for 15 generations and cut off from the rest of the world by an earthquake. The interloper decides quickly that "In the country of the blind, the one-eyed man is king". However, things turn out very differently than he had planned.

One day Mr Lewisham sits at his makeshift desk at his lodgings. He is an assistant master at Whortley proprietary school.

The story follows a young physicist who stumbles upon a mysterious company claiming to control human emotions. As he investigates, he uncovers a web of manipulation, ethical dilemmas, and unforeseen consequences. What starts as a scientific curiosity soon becomes a fight for free will. Anderson's sharp storytelling and thought-provoking themes explore the boundaries of science and morality.

An enterprising company has set up a mining endeavor on an asteroid to collect, process, and sell atmospheric gas products. The company, called Sword, is initially successful until an unnamed government tries to stamp out freedom and free enterprise in the Belt so the gases and minerals can be sent back to Earth, essentially trying to establish the business as a colony. Early Poul Anderson with a great finish.

"No Great Magic" fits into author Fritz Leiber's dizzying view of history as a battlefield in constant change. He explores the idea in his "Change War" novel, "The Big Time", and this work is part of the action. It works by itself as the tale of poor Greta, a girl taken in "like a pet" by a company of Shakespearean actors. She lives in the dressing room of their little theater in New York's Central Park. Leiber - an actor's son - brings an insider's eye to life behind the curtain. But Greta begins to doubt the curtain is real.

Fritz Leiber was one of the greatest science fiction and fantasy writers of the mid-twentieth century. One of his frequent themes was "technology gone wrong." In "The Creature from Cleveland Depths", a writer and his wife refuse to move below-ground after the cold-war gets hot. However, he still serves as a consultant for a below-ground company seeking to come up with new "gadgets." His latest product idea is called "The Tickler," a device that is with you at all times to remind you of appointments and "suggests" little motivations to improve efficiency.

Prophecy may vary between being an intellectual amusement and a serious occupation; serious not only in its intentions, but in its consequences.
