Biography of Joseph Smith as written by his mother, Lucy Mack Smith. Shortly following the death of Joseph Smith in 1844, and into 1845, Lucy Mack Smith dictated her recollections and family story to Nauvoo schoolteacher Martha Jane Coray. Coray worked with her husband to compile these books of notes and other sources into a manuscript, which was then copied. Although surrounded by a great deal of controversy when first published by Orson Pratt in 1853, it was later published by the Church under the direction of Joseph F. Smith. It has been called "one of the essential sources for Mormon origins" by Richard L. Anderson, and in the words of Leonard Arrington it "perhaps tells more about Mormon origins than any other single source."

Founder of the largest indigenous Christian church in American history, Joseph Smith published the 584-page Book of Mormon when he was 23 and went on to organize a church, found cities, and attract thousands of followers before his violent death at age 38. Richard Bushman, an esteemed cultural historian and a practicing Mormon, moves beyond the popular stereotype of Smith as a colorful fraud to explore his personality, his relationships with others, and how he received revelations.

Over 2,000 years ago, a band of desert travelers huddled against the sandy blasts of the Arabian peninsula. This treasured text would become the source material for the Book of Mormon, one of the most influential books in American history.

The world has long spoken both good and evil of Joseph Smith Jr., but few know his older brother, Hyrum. Few in this world have acknowledged or given any attentiveness to this man who, from his childhood, lived a life of honor, integrity, humility, and faith. During Joseph’s dispensation, there is record of only one other man who rose up out of the darkness of this world and into the Light, receiving Eternal life. On January 19, 1841, the Lord pronounced Hyrum a Patriarch, Prophet, Seer, and Revelator and recognized his place as first in His Priesthood. As one of God’s chosen servants, ...

Joseph Smith was a great Christian thinker, a religious revolutionary, and a controversial figure. Of all the things attributed to him, polygamy is one of the most controversial. It is one of the most discussed issues in Mormon history and continues to be the center of on-going controversy and debate. The LDS Church claims that their past practice of plural marriage originated with Joseph. Other branches of early Mormonism, most notably the RLDS, claim that Joseph never taught or practiced anything that even closely resembled polygamy. Evidence suggests that Joseph was doing something. David Holland shows the book of Moroni to be an intentionally organized collection of artifacts, pointing listeners toward the transformative power of divine love. He interprets Moroni’s teachings as a “theology of the gift” - a doctrinal depiction of a God whose nature is to give. This theology powerfully reminds Latter-day Saints that the ordinances we observe, the community we serve, and the talents we develop are all gifts designed to draw us toward the culminating bestowal of Christlike love.

It's the hidden epidemic of small moments of anxiety that infiltrate both our work and personal lives. Because each individual microstress is so small, it doesn't trigger the normal stress response in our brains to help us deal with it. Instead, the microstress just embeds in our minds, accumulating along with scores of other microstresses, day-to-day and week-to-week. The long-term effect is devastating: microstress invisibly weighs us down, damages our health, and contributes to a decline in our overall well-being. The good news is that once you learn about microstress, you can fight back.

What do the symbolic signs, laws, and tokens presented in the temple endowment ceremony represent in our everyday lives? How do we receive transformative grace through the atonement of Jesus Christ?
