First published in 1885, Markheim blends crime, horror and the supernatural. The titular character, Markheim, visits an antiques dealer on Christmas Day to find a present for his beloved, but when the dealer’s back is turned, he stabs him to death and begins to ransack the shop for money. But he is disturbed by a spirit who knows all about Markheim’s life and forces him to consider his choices and the nature of good and evil.

Occasionally an author appears who, in a short career, emblazons a legacy so bright and so distinct, as well as popular, that it is difficult to believe it is the output of only one man. Robert Louis Balfour Stevenson was such a talent. Over the course of his prolific career, Stevenson had not only given his audience many classic novels but beautiful poetry such as ‘A Child’s Garden of Verses’ and many short stories as with his dark classic of Christmas Day ‘Markheim’ (1884).

El dueño del negocio de antiguedades igual abre la puerta. Markheim dice que viene a comprar un regalo para una dama. Afuera es casi de noche.

El joven Markheim entra en una tienda de antigüedades para comprar un regalo a su prometida, ahora que se acerca la Navidad. His mercurial temperament, expressed so eloquently with his flashing pen, was best revealed when he took up a cause in defense of justice. Although known primarily for the novels Kidnapped and Treasure Island, his works are by no means reserved for the youth market.
