The Kree Empire is knocked back on its heels when the Phalanx, a cybernetic race that converts hosts using a techno-organic virus, seizes control of Hala, the Kree homeworld. The person who accidentally brought the Phalanx right to the heart of the Kree Empire? Peter Quill, otherwise known as Star-Lord.

These are not the Avengers or the Fantastic Four - in fact, they're barely even famous - but Rocket Raccoon and the faithful Groot are the baddest heroes in the cosmos, and they're on the run across the Marvel Universe! During a spaceport brawl, the infamous pair rescues an android Recorder from a pack of alien Badoons. Everyone in the galaxy, however, including the ruthless Kree Empire and the stalwart Nova Corps, seems to want that Recorder, who's about as sane as a sandwich with no mustard.

Following Ultron’s war on humanity, the world no longer trusts the Avengers. After a controversial decision to hold the team accountable is made, Captain America is torn—he can understand people’s fear, but the fall of S.H.I.E.L.D. taught him just how dangerous unchecked power can be, and he trusts his own judgment above all to do what’s right. The Avengers themselves are bitterly divided as to the best course of action. Captain America will have to take a stand and fight for what he believes in—even if it hurls him down the road to civil war.

When the Guardians attempt to evacuate a Kree prison planet and end up in a fight for their lives - what else is new? - they discover their old pal Groot is stretched a little thin.
