Resumen del Editor

A long-awaited memoir from the larger-than-life, multifaceted lead vocalist of Iron Maiden, one of the most successful, influential, and enduring rock bands ever.

Pioneers of Britain's nascent rock and metal scene back in the late 1970s, Iron Maiden smashed its way to the top, thanks in no small part to the high-octane performances, operatic singing style, and stage presence of its second but twice-longest-serving lead singer, Bruce Dickinson. As Iron Maiden's front man - first from 1981 to 1993 and then from 1999 to the present - Dickinson has been, and remains, a man of legend.

But OTT front man is just one of the many hats Bruce wears. In addition to being one of the world's most storied and well-respected singers and songwriters, he is an airline captain, aviation entrepreneur, motivational speaker, beer brewer, novelist, radio presenter, and film scriptwriter. He has also competed as a world-class level fencer. Often credited as a genuine polymath, Bruce, in his own words (and handwritten script in the first instance!), sets forth many personal observations guaranteed to inspire curious souls and hard-core fans alike.

Dickinson turns his unbridled creativity, passion, and anarchic humour to reveal some fascinating stories from his life, including his 30 years with Maiden, his solo career, his childhood within the eccentric British school system, his early bands, fatherhood and family, and his recent battle with cancer.

Bold, honest, intelligent, and very funny, his memoir is an up-close look inside the life, heart, and mind of one of the most unique and interesting men in the world - a true icon of rock.

A must for Iron Maiden fans

Bruce is an amazing storyteller, and a fascinating character. From singing to flying, he has stories that kept me listening with excitement until I ran out of book.

Brilliant book by a brilliant man.

One doesn't have to be a Maiden fan to appreciate Dickinson. Well worth the credit!

Metal Icon

I've been a fan of Iron Maiden since the late 80's. To hear the story of one of my rock heroes was truly a fascinating joy!

Wow. Just wow.

The first ten minutes had me worried. But once I got into it, the writing and narration blew me away. It's very funny and packed with great stories, and Dickinson does an amazing job reading it. I normally just listen to audio books when I'm in the car or at the gym, but this one had me up late a couple of nights because I was enjoying it so much. I laughed out loud on numerous occasions. Highly, highly recommended.

Bruce is masterful!

A good storyteller has inflection, character and a connection beyond the written word. Often times the subtext is a wink and a nod to the listener who is deeply engaged in the narrators relatability. He does all that with wit, charm, bravado and reckless abandon. Well done Mr. Dickinson, well done....

Way better than I thought it would be

If you could sum up What Does This Button Do? in three words, what would they be?

Iron f-ing Maiden

Who was your favorite character and why?

Is this a trick question? Um, autobiography about Bruce, so I sure hope he's the best character in it.

Which character – as performed by Bruce Dickinson – was your favorite?

Bruce

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Would have liked to but my commute isn't that long

Any additional comments?

Holy crap can Bruce write well. This is the first rock autobiography I've ever read and I initially wasn't interested in it at all, then I heard Bruce on Eddy Trunk and figured what the hell. The first half (up until joining Maiden) was funny, well written and very interesting. It's tapered off a bit after but it's still engaging. You leave with no uncertainties that Bruce really likes some beer, fencing, flying, oh and he also sang for some little known metal group that still putters around the globe like a bunch of old troopers, never fearing the dark or running for the hills..
