I sat down with Sergio Florian, a Doctor of Physical Therapy and endurance athlete. He has his own clinic on the island of Oahu called Wellness, Nuero and SCI where he and his team are dedicated to treating and training those suffering from neurological and spinal cord conditions.
He is a three time finisher of the HURT 100, to include a second overall finish in 2022. He had held the FKT for circumnavigating the island of Oahu until losing the title in late 2023.
We talk training, shoe preferences, the rescue of Stevie the dog, and so much more. It was an honor to sit down with Sergio. I hope you guys enjoy the conversation as much as I did!

John Korff has quite the impressive and diverse running resume. John ran his first marathon over 50 years ago at Boston, he's run Western States 100 in the 1980's, he's raced up the Empire State Building, and was once arrested while running through the Lincoln Tunnel in New York.

  • 2023 Honolulu Marathon Recap
    Dec 17 2023

A quick recap of my experience from the back of the pack. This was my wife's first marathon and we walked it together, as the Honolulu Marathon has no cutoff time and encourages people to walk it.
Having finished in under four hours last year, the 2023 race was a far different experience crossing the finish in just under ten hours.
Timing mats were pulled, aid stations minimized, and we were swept onto the sidewalk. We felt unwelcome at times.
This episode is a call out to the race directors to do better for the individuals that the running community benefit from the most. Those who are told they're not runners because of their abilities but have the determination to finish.

A conversation with Melissa. Growing up playing competitive tennis, running was always a part of Melissa's life. It wasn't until the birth of her first child that she discovered that running, by itself, could be enjoyable. And once she discovered the trails, it was on!!! She has completed a handful of ultra distance events and attempted the demanding HURT 100, which we discuss in depth.

As runners we try to our best to avoid them but they happen. As I recovery from an injury, I wanted to share some thoughts on the subject. It can be challenging to take time off but that can be just what we need.

Kyle got into running a little later than some. Approaching his thirties, he wanted to make some changes to keep him healthy. After running his first marathon less than two years ago, Kyle has finished a few ultra distance events, including a Grand Canyon rim-to-rim-to-rim effort and most recently, the 2023 Resurrection Pass 50 miler, a self-supported ultramarathon in the Alaskan wilderness.
