I explain what life as a former foster kid turned adopted kid, looked like - including but not limited to homeless summers. However, the main theme of this episode is how I learned to put healthy boundaries in place, and what it required to "stand on business" when those boundaries were tested. I share my story where overnight I went from being the only child, to the oldest of 5 foster siblings, and the middle child in between my foster mother's 3 adult children. I share how I was bullied by her adult children, manipulated to run a household, and confused at a very young age about my identity. We acknowledge how impactful adolescent years are on building self esteem, confidence, and trust within yourself. We shed light on the toll extreme distress and financial burden has on a parent's mental health. We acknowledge the impact mental, emotional, and physical abuse has on parenting.
