In this episode of Next Third Best Third, I sit down with Danny Silk to talk about why men need men in their lives. We unpack the isolation so many men experience, the self-imposed obstacles that keep them from deep friendship, and why real brotherhood is not a luxury but a necessity. Danny shares the heart behind The Way of the Dragon Slayer and why covenant relationships between men can change the course of a life.

We also get into what makes this kind of brotherhood different from typical men’s groups. This conversation is about more than surface-level accountability or talking about problems. It is about calling men into greatness, building lifelong trust, and surrounding yourself with brothers who can speak strength into your life when you need it most. Danny offers practical wisdom on how to identify the right men, what healthy masculinity actually looks like, and why enjoying the men in your circle matters more than most people realize.

If you have ever felt the pull toward isolation, wondered how to build stronger male friendships, or wanted to understand what true manhood looks like in this season of life, this conversation is for you. My hope is that this episode challenges you to take an honest look at your relationships and start building the kind of brotherhood that will carry you into the best third of your life.

  • 092: Why So Many Men Fail to Lead | The Truth About Leadership, Legacy, and Identity
    Mar 16 2026

    Send a text

In this episode of Next Third Best Third, I sit down with Cornellus Craft for a powerful conversation on what true leadership really means. We unpack the phrase, “No man alone, every man a leader,” and talk about why leadership cannot be separated from identity, humility, formation, and intentionality. This conversation is especially for men who want to lead well in their homes, relationships, work, and community, but it is also for anyone who wants to understand how real leadership is developed over time.

We dive into the characteristics of a real leader, including humility, stewardship, honor, compassionate curiosity, and servant leadership. We talk about why being challenged is necessary for growth, why leaders must ask better questions instead of always giving answers, and why leadership is not about control, performance, or demanding honor. It is about helping people become who they were designed to be. We also explore practical examples from parenting, business, ministry, and marriage to show how leadership plays out in everyday life.

If you have ever wondered what makes someone a trustworthy leader, how to become more intentional with your influence, or how to build a legacy that outlives you, this episode will challenge and encourage you. My hope is that this conversation helps you examine your own life, strengthen the way you lead, and step more fully into the kind of man who leaves people, families, and communities stronger because you were there.

  • 091: How Men Find Balance in a Busy Life | Daily Rhythms That Create Real Balance
    Mar 9 2026

    Send a text

In this episode of Next Third Best Third, I sit down with Cornellus Craft for a real and honest conversation about what it means to find balance when life feels full from every direction. We talk about the pressure men feel trying to manage work, family, ministry, responsibilities, and their own inner life, and why true balance is not really about managing time at all. It is about learning how to live from the right center.

What began as a conversation about busyness turned into something even deeper. We explored identity, sonship, purpose, shame, failure, and why so many men operate from performance instead of presence. Cornelius shares powerfully about discovering his identity as a son, how failure can distort a man’s sense of worth, and why staying connected to the Father changes the way a man shows up in every part of life. We also talk about purpose, vulnerability, accountability, and the courage it takes for men to stop pretending and start living with honesty.

If you are a man who feels stretched thin, disconnected, or uncertain about who you really are, this episode will challenge and encourage you. I believe your next third can be your best third, but it starts with examining your life, tearing down false idols, and reconnecting to the source of real strength, peace, and purpose. Subscribe, share this episode with another man who needs it, and join us as we pursue intentional living together.

  • 089: How to Choose a Mentor Without Getting Burned (Red Flags, Boundaries, Discernment)
    Feb 23 2026

    Send a text

I’ve learned the hard way that not every “mentor” is safe. In this episode of Next Third Best Third, we talk about how men can pursue real mentorship and brotherhood without getting wounded, used, or misdirected. If you’ve ever been burned by a leader, coach, pastor, or father figure—this conversation is about walking into relationships with intentionality and both eyes wide open.

We break down the difference between boundaries and walls, why mentorship should start organically (and why you should be cautious when someone announces “I want to be your mentor”), and the red flags that show up when relationships aren’t reciprocal. We also talk about the danger of making men into idols, why “success” isn’t the same as fruit, and how to examine character, long-term relationships, and accountability before you give someone influence in your life.

Most importantly, I share a framework that’s helped me: every man needs three men—someone ahead of you, men beside you, and someone you’re building up. We unpack how to use your “iron sharpening iron” guys to sanity-check decisions, how to have brave communication up front, and what to do if you’re already in a relationship and realizing the warning signs. • 088: 5 SIGNS You’re Stuck in a Rut & 5 WAYS To Get Out
    Feb 16 2026

    Send a text

If you’ve been feeling stuck lately, this episode is for you. What if the biggest thing holding you back isn’t failure, but comfort? In this conversation on Next Third, Best Third, I sit down with my friend Taylor to lay out the five clear signs you’re in a rut, and why rut life often feels “fine” until you realize it’s slowly draining your energy, your joy, and your momentum.

We get really practical. We talk about autopilot routines that turn into ruts, goals that feel distant even though you keep talking about them, and the subtle loss of excitement and curiosity that makes life feel dull. We also unpack how avoiding discomfort keeps you stagnant, and why complaining without action can quietly push you toward isolation. If any of this hits home, you’re not alone.

Most importantly, we give you five ways to get out of it starting today: break autopilot on purpose, take one messy step toward your goals, feed your curiosity again, choose discomfort daily, and replace complaining with creating. This episode is about rebuilding ownership, courage, and agency—so your next third really can become your best third.

"I never thought I’d see freedom again. At 17 years old, I was sentenced to five 99-year life sentences and eventually spent 13 years alone in a 5x8 solitary confinement cell.
