  • 149 | How Partial Obedience Leads to Spiritual Compromise
    Mar 31 2026

In Judges 1, Israel steps into the Promised Land ready to move forward. They actually begin in a good place, they seek the Lord and ask what they should do next. There's direction.

Over and over again, we see the same phrase: "they did not drive them out." Instead of fully obeying what God had asked, they begin to compromise. They allow certain people to stay, put them to forced labor, and learn to live alongside what God had clearly told them to remove.

But what starts as partial obedience slowly turns into a pattern of compromise, and eventually, confusion.

There's a moment in Judges 1:19 where it says Judah couldn't drive out the inhabitants because they had iron chariots. And you can almost hear the justification in that. This is too hard. This is too much. This isn't realistic.

It's an invitation to take an honest look at our lives and ask:
    Where have I stopped short?
What have I allowed to stay that God has asked me to remove?
Where have I chosen what feels easier over what God has said?

Because obedience isn't just about starting well, it's about finishing faithfully.

  • 148 | How to Handle Success God's Way
    Mar 10 2026

In 2 Samuel 8:1–13, we see David in a season of victory. Nation after nation falls before him. His kingdom expands. His influence grows. His strength is undeniable.

But Scripture repeats a powerful phrase:
"The Lord gave David victory wherever he went."

This chapter is about God's sovereignty. The victories were not self-made; they were God-given.

In this episode, Pastor David Maestas walks us through:

    • Why success can be more spiritually dangerous than struggle

    • The importance of remembering where your victories come from

    • How David handled power, wealth, and expansion

    • The significance of dedicating the spoils to the Lord

    • What it means to steward influence with humility

David didn't hoard his victories. He dedicated them to God.

When God blesses you, whether in leadership, business, family, ministry, or influence—the question becomes:

Will you build your own name, or will you honor His?

2 Samuel 8 reminds us that true strength is not independence. It is dependence. And the same God who preserved David is the One who sustains us today.

If you are walking in a season of success, growth, or breakthrough, this message will challenge you to stay grounded, grateful, and faithful.

Victory is sweetest when it is surrendered.

  • 147 | God Says: There's a Difference Between Ambition and Obedience
    Mar 3 2026

In 2 Samuel 7:1–29, David has a good idea. He wants to build a house for God. After all, he is living in a palace while the ark of the covenant rests in a tent. It seems honorable, spiritual, and even obvious.

    But God says no.

Instead of allowing David to build Him a house, God makes a covenant with David and promises to build him a house, a dynasty that will last forever. This chapter marks a turning point in redemptive history and ultimately points to Jesus, the true and eternal King who would come from David's line.

In this episode, Pastor David Maestas explores:

    • Why good intentions are not always God's assignment

    • How to respond when God redirects your plans

    • The difference between ambition and obedience

    • What the Davidic covenant reveals about God's faithfulness

    • How 2 Samuel 7 ultimately points to Christ

If you're in a season where God has closed a door, delayed a dream, or redirected your path, this chapter reminds us that His "no" is often protecting a bigger "yes."

God's promises are not dependent on your performance. They are rooted in His covenant faithfulness.

Listen in as Pastor David Maestas unpacks how to trust God's timing, surrender your plans, and rest in the reality that He is building something greater than you can see.

  • 146 | Honor the Lord
    Feb 24 2026

In this episode, Pastor David Maestas walks through one of the most powerful and sobering moments in the life of King David, bringing the Ark of the Covenant to Jerusalem. What begins as celebration becomes a lesson in reverence, obedience, and what it truly means to honor the Lord.

This passage reminds us that God's presence is a gift, but it is never casual. Honor is not just about emotion. It is about obedience, humility, and putting God's glory above our image.

  • 144 | Wrestling With God: Religion vs. Relationship
    Feb 10 2026

In this episode, Pastor David Maestas walks through 1 Samuel 4:1–5:5, a dramatic and sobering moment in Israel's history. The Israelites are at war with the Philistines, but instead of seeking God's heart, they try to use God's presence like a lucky charm. They bring the Ark of the Covenant into battle, assuming it will guarantee victory, and they are devastatingly wrong.

This passage forces us to ask a hard question:
Do we actually trust God, or do we just want Him to bless our plans?

We explore how Israel confused religious symbolism with real relationship, treating the Ark like a spiritual weapon rather than a holy representation of God's covenant presence. When the Ark is captured, it shakes their identity, exposes their spiritual drift, and reveals a painful truth — God will not be manipulated.

Then the story shifts to Philistine territory, where the Ark is placed in the temple of Dagon. What happens next is both ironic and powerful. The false god falls face down before the Ark — twice. Even in captivity, God proves He is still sovereign.

  • 143 | Misplaced Loyalty: Right People, Wrong Direction
    Jan 20 2026

In this episode of The Living It Out Podcast, Pastor Dave Maestas teaches from 2 Samuel 3:1–39, confronting a hard but necessary truth: you can be surrounded by the right people and still be headed in the wrong direction.

This chapter highlights the danger of misplaced loyalty. As David grows stronger, the house of Saul grows weaker—but many characters remain committed to systems, leaders, and patterns God is clearly moving away from. Abner's power struggles, shifting allegiances, and eventual downfall reveal how pride, fear, and self-interest can keep people fighting for the wrong cause.

Pastor Dave unpacks how this passage speaks directly to our lives today—our friendships, leadership structures, workplaces, and even churches.

    In this message, you'll learn:

    • Why loyalty without discernment can become disobedience

    • How pride and control can blind us to where God is moving

    • The difference between being faithful and being stubborn

    • Why following God sometimes requires leaving familiar teams or systems

    • How to evaluate whether you're aligned with God's direction or just comfortable people

  • 142 | The Cost of Waiting Well
    Jan 13 2026

In this episode of The Living It Out Podcast, Pastor David Maestas teaches from 2 Samuel 2:1–3:5, reminding us that just because God has promised something doesn't mean the battle is over. In fact, sometimes the fight intensifies after the anointing.

As David steps into leadership over Judah, conflict immediately follows. The house of Saul and the house of David enter a long, exhausting struggle—one marked by opposition, loss, and slow progress. This passage shows us a hard but necessary truth: spiritual battles are often prolonged, personal, and refining.

Pastor Dave unpacks what it looks like to:

    • Trust God while progress feels slow

    • Lead faithfully in seasons of opposition

    • Stay obedient when the promise hasn't fully materialized

    • Recognize that growth often happens through resistance

This teaching challenges listeners to stop interpreting hardship as failure and instead see it as part of God's forming process. David didn't rush the throne, manipulate outcomes, or fight in his own strength, he waited on God while walking faithfully through conflict.
