    In this episode Nikhil Chaudhary, Evolutionary Anthropologist and Associate Professor (University of Cambridge), talks us through his findings when investigating Hunger-Gatherer societies drawing out some of the major contrasts to the modern world, mainly the West.

    We talk about the characteristics and traits of Hunter-Gatherer tribes and how differently we have come to live today. Nikhil talks us through his research and topics including mismatch, modernity, learning, co-operation, competition, egalitarianism and how these impact the modern day stressors and mental health problems we are seeing.

    Nikhil explains the useful concept of a “threat detection system” and how we can use it to help us understand our responses to the stressors we face.

    In this episode Dhruv Chhatralia introduces us to the ancient Eastern Scriptures (“The Vedas”), mainly the Bhagavad Gita, as we go on to explore some of the teaching and philosophies that can be helpful to our way or life and wellbeing. Dhruv is an international mergers and acquisitions lawyer at a global law firm based in the City of London, author of 21 books on Hinduism and he has given over 325 public talks of over 350 hours between them on spirituality including on the Bhagavad Gita, Hanuman Chalisa, Ramayan, Shrimad Bhagavad, Shree Suktam, Devi Mahatmaya, the Upanishads, the Vedas, Yoga and Meditation. Dhruv was included in Her Majesty The Queen’s 2020 New Year Honours List for the award of a BEM for voluntary service to Hinduism and developing young people. He has spoken on Hinduism at the British Army, House of Commons, House of Lords, Home Office, the Ministry of Defence and many other occasions. In this episode we talk about the origins of the Gita and it’s role in telling the Mahabharata story. Dhruv tells us the basis of the war the took place and how Arjuns dilemma as to whether or not to go to war with his family was resolved. We talk about the take aways, philosophies and how we can apply the teachings to our way of life.
