Success can lead to an inflated ego, creating the illusion that we have the perfect recipe for being a successful leader. However, leadership revolves around people, who constantly evolve. Thinking we have discovered the ultimate way to lead people fails to adapt. Letting our ego dictate our perceptions and beliefs means that we risk compromising our future success by allowing past accomplishments to define our mindset. This episode talks about how coaches can avoid this dreaded coaching bubble by not allowing their egos to take control.

  • Cody Goessl - Secrets of Goal Setting and Tips on Better Connecting to Your Athletes
    Mar 4 2022

Cody Goessl joins Andrew Nauenburg and Zac Dominguez on Episode 21. Cody is a behavioral scientist with research interests in health literacy, health disparities, diabetes prevention, lifestyle interventions, and sports medicine. He completed his Ph.D. in 2019 at the Department of Health Promotion and Disease Prevention at the University of Nebraska Medical Center. Since joining Marshfield Clinic Research Institute as the Frank B. and Betty J. Koller Postdoctoral Research Scholar in November 2019, Dr. Goessl has been involved in several projects examining disease prevention in rural populations, most notably using data from a rural, primary-care based behavioral weight-loss trial that Marshfield Clinic participated in with the University of Kansas and University of Nebraska Medical Centers (RE-POWER Study). Over the last 30 years, several large trials have studied the impact of weight loss on the prevention of type 2 diabetes and other chronic diseases in adults with obesity. These studies have been conducted in various settings and with mixed success over time. Little is known about their relevance to specific patient subgroups, most notably those who live in rural areas, as well as those who are simultaneously managing common obesity comorbidities such as mental illness or chronic pain.
