Not just headlines. Not just instructions. But Shakespeare. Victor Hugo. Great novels. Big ideas. The Count of Monte Cristo!
Stories that carried people beyond repetitive work and into imagination, philosophy, and hope.
The Lector became the heartbeat of the factory — transforming long, demanding days into something richer: a shared education, a shared inner life, a shared sense of dignity.
And this tradition didn’t emerge by accident. It came from a culture that understands something deeply human: work feeds the body, but story feeds the spirit.

In Havana, French-influenced architecture rises with elegance and endurance. Hand-carved wooden furniture tells stories of craftsmanship passed down through generations. Grand piazzas invite gathering, not rushing. Life unfolds in conversation, music, shared meals, and presence.
Tradition matters here. Culture matters here. People matter here.
We were even invited into the home of our driver’s mother — not as tourists, but as guests. We sat together, shared food, and absorbed the beauty of Cuban hospitality: simple, heartfelt, and offered without expectation.
In moments like that, Cuba stops being a place you visit — and becomes something you feel.
Why This Still Matters Factory owners once tried to ban El Lector, fearing the power of ideas. The workers fought to keep their stories alive — because they understood that knowledge, imagination, and meaning are not luxuries. They are necessities.
In many ways, El Lector was the original podcast — a shared listening experience that lifted people beyond their circumstances and reminded them of who they were.
