    Send us Fan Mail

Mallary and I discussed an upcoming Zoom event focused on eating disorder recovery, particularly exploring the "middle place" between being actively sick and full recovery.

I shared my personal experience of how recovery brought color back into my life after experiencing black-and-white dreams during my struggle with bulimia.

Mallary confirmed the event details about her Creative Workshop on Eating Disorder Recovery, along with artist Therese Roeser: it will take place on Wednesday, April 22nd, from 7 pm to 8:15 pm Central Standard Time, and participants are encouraged to bring art supplies, like crayons and coloring pencils, to add color to the discussion. The event is free and accessible through Mallary's Substack newsletter at mallory.substack.com, where participants can find more details and register for the Zoom session.

    Personal Anorexia Experience Discussion

Mallary and I discussed Mallary's personal experience with anorexia, including how it was connected to losing her mother at a young age. We referenced a previous podcast episode (128), where we explored the origins of eating disorders and their role in recovery.

Honest and crazy things we do when we have an eating disorder... this we share in this episode!!

    An overview...

I spoke with Ronni Robinson, a certified binge eating recovery coach and author. Ronni shared her 30-year journey with binge eating disorder, which began at age 9 with her mother hiding cookies from her, and continued through various life stages, including an abusive marriage and even after having two children. She described her recovery process, which included therapy, Overeaters Anonymous meetings, and writing a memoir called "Out of the Pantry, A Disordered Eating Journey." Ronni also discussed her achievements as a three-time Ironman triathlon competitor and her "foster fail" cat, Gio. The conversation highlighted the similarities between binge eating disorder and bulimia, with both guests sharing personal experiences of hiding disordered eating behaviors.

  • Bleep Bulimia Episode #143 - LaurieAnn Celebrating 15 years of Freedom From Bulimia
    Feb 12 2026

    Send us Fan Mail

Just a quick episode celebrating my 15 years of being free of bulimia. Some people prefer to use "recovery" as a term. If I were to be imprisoned and be let go, that means freedom, and this is how I see my getting out of prison, food jail. And coming out of it, I found solace and learned to be friends and enjoy each other's company without being archenemies. Food wanted me to understand its nurturing side, so I chose to listen to society and stop seeing food as a friend but as a foe. When I realized that society was the reason my relationship was not working with food, we came together and realized it was our mental state. Not food and me. Our mental misunderstanding of cultural impositions on the way people view you, of social media, or in my case, magazines, of what you SHOULD BE, and suddenly, food became the mean one.

DIET, DIET, DIET... AND "diet" became a bad word because of the restrictions, yet "diet" just means what you eat. I choose to eat what I want, not what society is going to tell me to, or what body size I should have. That will be my choice. Not what media puts out there, or what is expected of me as a woman... and I hope men feel the same, because I did meet male athletes who were bulimic.

When you learn that food is not the enemy, that society is, and that there are better people to talk to than food, and you that being YOU! LOVE yourself, LISTEN to yourself, FIND yourself, and food will just naturally find you as well in a healthy way.

  • Bleep Bulimia Episode #141 with Stanley Bronstein on The Way of Excellence
    Feb 12 2026

    Send a text

Stanley Bronstein is an Attorney, CPA turned Life Coach.

Stanley's "relationship" with food started when he was 8 years old. His mother died when he was 8, and he lived with his father, who was morbidly obese, and their eating habits were not healthy.

At 50 years old, he asked himself where he would be in five years if he kept doing what he was doing. He said he was committing "slowaside". He did not want to continue that way.

He is celebrating his 17th year of "rebirth" in February of 2026. He decided on the day that he asked that question that he wasn't going to wait. He was going to change right then and there. His choice of exercise was walking, which he says changed his life and saved his life.

Listen to his story about how he lost over 220 lbs., his philosophies, and his Way of Excellence.

You can find Stanley by going to https://thewayofexcellence.com/

  • Bleep Bulimia Episode #140 with Fitz Koehler, Fitness Pro, 5 x Author, Speaker and Cancer Crusher
    Dec 15 2025

    Send a text

Fitz is a Floridian. She has been teaching fitness since she was fourteen, which is a bit of a twist. A twist, because when you listen to her story, you will understand.

She said her major missteps when she was younger, and she is six years cancer-free!

Being a Floridian, she was in good shape yet small and scrawny. Yet she was bullied by her older sister. (Who does that to their siblings?... wait... I do understand!!) Being tormented by an elder sibling and being body shamed is something that is very hard to overcome.

Her mother did the best that she could, provided red meats, potatoes, and butter.

Although she moved on to fitness after an injury, she still struggled with her food consumption. She wanted to be thinner. So she learned how to be bulimic. She said that it was just self-punishment.

Fitz joined an organization that was to prevent eating disorders, and as a closet bulimic, lectured others on the harm of eating disorders.

Turn around was the time when her communal bathroom was full, so she threw up in her dorm in her garbage can. The epiphany was Missy. Missy was overweight, and she thought, "Would I like Missy less if she were bigger? Would I like Missy less if she were thinner?"

She admits there is still body dysmorphia, but she doesn't self-harm anymore. She is also aware that her appearance to others will not impact them in her coaching of them.

    An incredibly eye-opening conversation.

Fitz is now a five-time author, Fitness Pro, Speaker, and, amazingly, a cancer survivor.

    Her new book is:

You. Supercharged! :The Exact Formula for Fitness, Weight Loss, and Longevity

And you can find it on Amazon, or you can reach out to her directly for a signed copy as well at https://fitzness-store.myshopify.com/

For my listeners, also know that Fitz does, in her book, write about eating disorders.

I appreciate the honesty and openness, and most of all the passion Fitz has.
