The mother character, Kim, was REALLY annoying. There's a plot element in the book that would have easily made the mother "out of town" and the book would have been SO much better without her. Also the sibling rivalry could have been dialed way back. The father was written as a pretty two dimensional cliche character, which was a shame. He was by far the most interesting despite that. A good deal of time was spent using the mother's character as a proxy to lecture the reader on racism, which was tiresome. Still, the book overall was a good listen, just not great. I wouldn't search out another novel by this author.
