Follow the Rites...

Nothing less than the survival of humanity is at stake.

From Marcus Kliewer, a new “titan of the macabre and unsettling” (Erin A. Craig, #1 New York Times bestselling author), comes an eerie supernatural horror about a young woman who accepts a caretaking job from Craigslist, only to discover the position has consequences far greater—and more dangerous—than she ever could have imagined.

EXCITING OPPORTUNITY:
Caretaker urgently needed. Three days of work. Competitive pay. Serious applicants ONLY.

Macy Mullins can’t say why the job posting grabbed her attention—it had the pull of a fisherman’s lure, barbed hook and all—vaguely ominous. But after an endless string of failed job interviews, she's not exactly in the position to be picky. She has rent to pay, groceries to buy, and a younger sister to provide for.

Besides, it’s only three days’ work…

Three days, cooped up in a stranger’s house, surrounded by Oregon Coast wilderness.

What starts as a peculiar side gig soon becomes a waking nightmare. An incomprehensible evil may dwell on this property—and Macy Mullins might just be the only thing standing between it, and the rest of humanity.

Loved the plot of the book and the characters, but the second guessing of it all was making me very anxious!!! Lol I’m sure that was part of the point!!! Good listen though I would definitely recommend this book!!

The story line was very interesting!!

Marcus Kkwelier does it again with The Caretaker.

This one starts off a little slow, but once it picks up I was all the way in. The world building and suspense were great, there’s this constant eerie feeling creeping in that makes you keep turning pages just to see what’s going to happen next.

We follow Macie Mullins, who’s down on her luck and just needs a job. She ends up taking a position as a caretaker, but from the beginning, nothing about this place feels normal. She’s given simple rules to follow, but of course, things start going left real quick. This job turns into a freaking nightmare.

And Macie, she got on my nerves so many times. Like girl please just do ONE thing right. But honestly, that frustration just added to the tension because I was so invested in what was happening to her.

Once the story really gets going, it becomes a page-turner. Creepy, tense, and super engaging.

And that ending! Honestly perfect. It wrapped things up so well and still had me sitting there like, wait a minute, what just happened!

I did not like the ending: no closure unless there is a second book??? I have no idea why they were doing rites so I’m frustrated

Storyline was captivating

I would love to give this book five stars for the narrator alone because she does a FANTASTIC job conveying fear, anxiety, and loathing all with the tone of her voice. I have been so excited to listen to this book as I absolutely loved We Used to Live Here, however, this book did not meet expectations. I have heard so many people say how much this book scared them and kept them up at night and it’s one of the most disturbing books they’ve ever read- unless there’s something wrong with me (and I have a very weak stomach) I did not get any sense of dread from this story. I honestly thought the whole plot was very silly and so far from what I thought the story was going to be. And honestly, one of the worst endings to a book I’ve ever read in my opinion. I know others won’t share this feeling and that’s great, I’m glad they enjoyed. This book just was not for me. Still love the author.

This narrator has quickly become one of my favorites
